Vision Vortex Case Problem 'C'
Vision Vortex Case Problem 'C'
PROBLEM STATEMENT
The simultaneous availability and cost-effectiveness of the green and sustainable materials
required by the firm for production as opposed to the cheaper and abundant non-ecofriendly
materials from external sources sometimes poses a hindrance for the company. This makes it
challenging to remain authentic in the company's environmental and ethical principles while
simultaneously competing for costs and quality in a dynamic market, battling the consistency of
the supply chain, and keeping the shareholders' trust.
Persuading the shareholders, including but not limited to builders, architects, construction
workers, and consumers etc. may need a comprehensive marketing and awareness campaigns.
Moreover, efficient collecting, sorting, and processing of waste materials require effective
partnerships, collective efforts, and logistical planning. Being unable to manage these processes
effectively and efficiently can result in increased costs and operational difficulties in the best-case
scenario and loss of clients, customers, revenue, and reputation in the worst-case one.
Through extensive research and practical experiments, the team has developed synthetic
materials known as plastic composites. By incorporating 30 to 50% waste plastic (by volume of a
product) and other filler materials, the company manufactures alternatives to traditional building
materials, including paver blocks, paver tiles, kerbs, manhole covers, roofing, and flooring tiles.
These manufactured products adhere to all the quality and specification standards set by Indian
regulations.
This approach is considered a significant solution as it efficiently utilizes waste plastic on a large
scale, producing high-quality construction materials that contribute to a cleaner environment,
thereby reducing CO2 footprints. The manufacturing process also minimizes water usage to an
extreme level.
A distinctive aspect of this initiative is the empowerment of RAG pickers, particularly women, who
are heavily reliant on waste collection for their livelihoods. Operating without necessary
precautions in undesirable conditions, these women will be empowered through employment
opportunities. The company aims not only to uplift their standards of living but also to provide
them with a better lifestyle. The firm respects the principles of circular economy and directly
supports SDGs-11, 12, 13: Sustainable cities and communities, Responsible consumption and
production, Climate action, respectively.
