PROJECT WORK TOPIC - NATURAL RESOURCES AND DISASTER


MANAGEMENT

Objective: The overall objective of the project work is to help students to gain an insight
and pragmatic understanding of the theme and see all the social Science disciplines from
interdisciplinary perspective. It should also help in enhancing the Life Skills of the students.
Students are expected to apply the Social Science concepts that they have learnt over the
years in order to prepare the project report. Every student has to compulsorily undertake
and prepare a project file with following details:

1. Assessment of each unit will be based on quality of Content accuracy, Originality and
Creativity. Marks will be deducted on overall score for late submission/ incomplete work.
2. The total length of the project report should not be more than 10 written pages of foolscap
size (A-4 size) sheet.
3. The project report should be handwritten and credit will be awarded to original drawings,
illustrations, and creative use of eco-friendly material.
4. The project report should be presented in a neatly bound simple paper/cardboard folder
(Ecofriendly) if its handwritten.
5. Minimum 1 picture for each sub-heading. All the photographs and sketches should be
labeled and acknowledged.
6. The project report should be developed and presented in this order:
a) Cover page showing project title, student information, school and year.
b) List and content with page number.
c) Acknowledgements (acknowledging the institutions, offices and libraries visited
virtually and persons who have helped).
d) Chapters with relevant headings.
e) Summary and conclusions based on findings.
POINTS TO BE COVERED IN THE PROJECT
A) Introduction of the topic.
B) Types of Natural Resources with Natural Disaster of that particular resource.
Here are few examples:
➢ Water - Natural disasters such as floods, droughts, and hurricanes can impact water
resources by contaminating them, reducing their availability, or causing infrastructure
damage.
➢ Forests: Forests can be affected by wildfires, hurricanes, and insect infestations, which
can lead to deforestation, loss of biodiversity, and habitat destruction.
➢ Minerals: Earthquakes, landslides, and volcanic eruptions can disrupt mineral extraction
and mining operations, leading to supply shortages and infrastructure damage.
➢ Agricultural Land: Floods, droughts, and storms can damage crops, soil fertility, and
irrigation systems, affecting agricultural productivity and food security.
➢ Fisheries: Tsunamis, oil spills, and coral bleaching events can harm marine ecosystems,
leading to declines in fish populations and loss of livelihoods for fishermen.
C) Causes and consequences of disaster.
D) Before and after mitigation strategies to cope the disaster.
E) Any recent case study from India or any other part of the world.

Note:
⚫ The project will be assessed and carry some weightage for the Internal Assessment
(2024 - 2025).
