TODDLER RECIPES

Introduction
Hello Mama,

I know exactly what it feels like to keep racking your


brain for what your toddler will eat and the fact that
they eat in little bits round the clock. Sigh! It can be a
whole lot of work if you are not prepared.

A lot changed for me when I made a time table and


followed through with it. Unlike you, your child thrives on
routine and won't get bored with the meals so don't
worry. I only noticed Cuddles doesn't like eating the same
breakfast 2 days in a row - except for oats of course
- his favourite. The important thing is to know your
baby.

In my experience with following recipes, I noticed that


most of the measurements and duration didn't quite
work for me. Gas burners differ and personal taste
and appetite vary. So, I have put in the ingredients
without so much emphasis on measurements or cooking
duration but I will try to detail the preparation process
along with measures that have worked for me. What is
most important is to ensure your baby's food is
properly cooked and in quantities that will satisfy them..

Please, note that I am not a nutritionist. I am just a mum


who is creating recipes with the sole intention of giving
her child a balanced diet.

TIPS
I ADOPTED SOME OF THE TIPS BELOW TO MAKE MY
LIFE A BIT EASIER. YOU MAY WANT TO CONSIDER THEM. I
BELIEVE THEY COULD HELP YOU TOO
TO SAVE TIME AND REDUCE STRESS:
BOIL YOUR CHICKEN AND FISH IN SUBSTANTIAL
QUANTITY, REMOVE ALL THE BONES, KEEP IN A
SEALED CONTAINER AND STORE IN THE FREEZER.
PEEL THE BEANS IN SUBSTANTIAL QUANTITY, DRY
AND STORE IN A FRDGE
COOK QUANTITIES ENOUGH TO LAST FOR 2-3 MEALS
AND STORE IN FRIDGE TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF
TIMES YOU HAVE TO COOK.
FRY IN NON STICK PANS TO AVOID USING TOO MUCH
OIL TO COOK FOR YOUR BABY.
WHERE FRYING IS NOT REQUIRED USE COCONUT OIL
AS IT IS HEALTHIER AND ADD IT AFTER THE MEAL IS
COOKED
MOST INGREDIENTS USED IN THE MENU CAN BE
SUBSTITUTED. USE WHAT YOUR BABY LOVES.
ENSURE FRUITS SLICES ARE NOT TOO SMALL TO
AVOID CHOKING
NOTES
I TYPICALLY FEED MY SON ABOUT 6 TIMES THROUGH
THE DAY - MAIN MEALS AND SNACKS. HAVE FRUITS,
BISCUITS, SMOOTHIES, JUICE HANDY - YOU CAN PREP
FOR THE WEEK.
THE TIMETABLE ONLY HAS BREAKFAST, LUNCH,
DINNER & SNACKS ASSUMING YOU GIVE
CEREAL EARLY IN THE MORNING 7/8AM AND
FRUITS/SNACKS IN BETWEEN MEALS
FOR SOME OF THE DAYS ON THE TIME TABLE THERE
ARE 2 CHOICES.
YOU SHOULD NOT USE SALT OR SEASONING CUBE
FOR BABIES UNDER 6 MONTHS. TRUST ME, THEY
DON'T KNOW THE DIFFERENCE AND THEIR TENDER
KIDNEYS CAN'T TAKE IT.

MIX THE WET INGREDIENTS TOGETHER, ADD IT TO THE
DRY INGREDIENTS AND MIX..
ADD WATER AND STIR TILL YOU ARE SATISFIED WITH
THE CONSISTENCY
PAN FRY IN A NON STICK PAN ON LOW HEAT - SO YOU
WON'T NEED OIL.
FLIP WHEN BUBBLES FORM ON TOP TO COOK OTHER
SIDE
TURN OFF COOKER AND SERVE WITH FRUIT (SLICED
BANANA, SLICED SEEDLESS GRAPES, SLICED

1 MEDIUM SLICE YAM

BOL SLICED YAM TILL SOFT
TURN OFF COOKER AND DRAIN EXCESS WATER
ADD COCONUT OIL
MASH FOR BABIES YOUNGER THAN 12 MONTHS
CUT IN SMALL PIECES TO ENCOURAGE OLDER KIDS TO
PICK AND EAT
YAM OMELETTE
INGREDIENTS
1 MEDIUM SLICE YAM
1 HAND FULL OF CAN GREEN PEAS
1/4 CARROT (GRATED)
1 -2 EGG(S)
MASHED DEBONED FISH/CRAYFISH
POWDER

PROCESS
CUT YAM IN SMALL SIZES AND BOIL WITH THE GREEN PEAS
(IF YOU ARE USING FRESH GREEN PEAS BUT IF YOU ARE
USING CANNED PEAS ADD IT AFTER DRAINING WATER)
DRAIN THE WATER
MASH THE BOILED YAM AND GREEN PEAS
ADD GRATED CARROT
ADD THE MASHED FISH/CRAYFISH POWDER AND MIX
WHISK EGGS AND ADD
MIX IT TOGETHER
FRY MIXTURE IN A NON-STICK PAN
FLIP TO COOK OTHER SIDE.
TURN OFF COOKER AND SERVE

BOIL POTATOES WITH THE GREEN PEAS (IF YOU
ARE USING FRESH GREEN PEAS BUT IF YOU ARE USING
CANNED PEAS ADD IT AFTER DRAINING WATER)
DRAIN WATER
GRATE THE CARROT
ADD THE MASHED DEBONED FISH/DEBONED
CHICKEN/CRAYFISH POWDER
MASH TOGETHER & PUT OFF THE COOKER
ADD COCONUT OIL & SERVE
BEANS COATED POTATO CHIPS

4 MEDIUM SIZED IRISH/SWEET POTATOES


2 TABLE SPOONS PEELED BEANS PUREE
1 EGG
1 - 2 TABLE SPOON(S) VEGETABLE OIL

* This quantity makes more than one meal, you


can store in the freezer to eat within the
week.

PROCESS
SLICE POTATOES
BOIL POTATOES (I LIKE TO BOIL MINE FIRST TO REDUCE
FRY TIME)
PUT BEANS PUREE IN A CONTAINER AND ADD THE EGG,
MIX TOGETHER
DEEP THE POTATO IN THE BEANS AND EGG MIXTURE
PAN FRY IN THE VEGETABLE OIL TILL IT IS GOLDEN
BROWN
SERVE WITH FRUITS
YAM CHIPS & DODO

INGREDIENTS
1 MEDIUM SLICE YAM
1 PLANTAIN
1 EGG

PROCESS
SLICE YAM AND FRY
SLICE PLANTAIN AND FRY
BOIL OR FRY EGG
SERVE TOGETHER WITH FRUITS

* Do not fry yam and plantain too dry so that it is not


difficult for them to chew

ALLOW TO COOK FOR A FEW MINUTES
TURN OFF COOKER AND SERVE WITH VERY SOFT
AMALA, EBA, SEMO
BABY SWALLOW

INGREDIENTS
DRY SWALLOW (ELUBO, GARRI,
SEMO ETC)
WATER - NOT HOT

* Quantity will depend on how much


your baby eats.

PROCESS
ADD DRY SWALLOW POWDER TO WATER TO MAKE A
PASTE TO AVOID HAVING LUMPS
PUT ON THE COOKER TO BOIL WHILE STIRRING
OCCASIONALLY
STIR TILL IT FORMS A THICKER PASTE
TURN OFF COOKER AND SERVE. WITH SOUP OF CHOICE

* Baby swallow should be soft
