The work of Preparing Intemational Standards is normally carried out through ISO technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented ‘on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non- governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the Intemational Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization. Draft International Standards adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publication as an International Standard requires approval by at least 75% of the member bodies casting a vote. International Standard ISO 7902-3 was prepared by Technical Committee ISOITC 128, Plain bearings, Subcommittee SC 4, Methods of calculation of plain bearings. 180.7902 consists of the following parts, under the general tile Hydrodynamic plain journal bearings under steady-state conditions — Circular cylindrical bearings: — Part 1: Calculation procedure — Part 2: Functions used in the calculation procedure — Part 3: Permissible operational parameters Annex A of this part of ISO 7902 is for information only. © 180 1998 All sights reserved. The permissible parameters represent geometrically and technologically dependent operational limits within the plein bearing tribological system. They are empirical values which stil enable sutficient operational reliability even for minor influences (see ISO 7902-1), STD-ISO 7902-3-ENGL 1998 MM 4851903 0749421 973 mm INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ¢1S0 1S0 7902-3:1998(E) Hydrodynamic plain journal bearings under steady-state conditions — Circular cylindrical bearings — Part 3: Permissible operational parameters 1 Scope This par of 150 7902 spectes empirical permissible values fo hiny Tim 8% Fim ‘The empirical values stated can be modified for certain applications, for example if information supplied by the manufacturer is to be taken into account. The descriptions of the symbols and calculation examples are given in 180 7902-1 2. Normative reference The following standard contains provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this part of 1S0 7902. At the time of publication, the edition indicated was valid. All standards are subject to revision, and partes to agreements based on this part of ISO 7902 are encouraged to invest gate the possibilty of applying the ‘most recent edition of the standard indicated below. Members of IEC and ISO maintain registers of currently valid International Standards 180 7902-1:1998, Hydrodynamic plain journal bearings under steady-state conditions — Circular cylindrical bearings — Part 1: Calculation procedure. 3 Operational parameters to avoid wear 3.1. The aim of keeping above the minimum permissible lubrication film thickness fim is to retain complete lubrication of the plain bearing in order to attain least possible wear and low susceptibility to faults. The lubricant. should be free of contaminating panicles, otherwise increased wear, scoring and local overheating can result, thus impairing correct functioning of the plain bearing. If necessary, appropriate filtering of the lubricant should be provided for. 3.2 The minimum permissible lubrication film thickness firm, a6 a characteristic parameter for the transition to mixed friction (see ISO 7902-1:1998, 6.6), can be determined from the following equation: 1,4 im = Reg + Res + BV+ 5+ hawt = (1) STD-ISO 7902-3-ENGL 2994 MM 4852903 O749422 BOT Mt ISO 7902-3:1998(E) e1so This takes into account — the sum of the mean peak-to-valley heights of bearing and shaft at the ideal location (ine X-X) [Rep + Re} — the misalignment (ine Y-Y) within the bearing length [1/2 By] — the mean deflection (line 2-2) [1/2 y] 3.3 If wavy geometrical deviations occur in the sliding surfaces (bearing or shatt) in the circumferential direction, they are taken into account during the determination of iim by the effective waviness fvay.gt for the most unfavourable shaft position. In this case, hyay,of is the effective waviness of the bearing under static loading or the effective waviness of the shaft under rotating loading, respectively. The effective waviness fvav.e and the maximum permissible effective waviness hway.etim at @ given operating point (€ OF him) Gan be determined using figure 2 if roughnesses, deformations and tit positions are known. 3.4. In accordance with equation (1), the following applies: Aen =m + Aya ot where 4,04 m= Reg + Rey +5 BY +S B+ Rey +> By toy With @ given minimum lubricant film thickness fimin the maximum permissible effective waviness amplitude is determined from ‘wavt.im = Pirin — The maximum permissible absolute waviness, hyav.etim, is determined from G Pravie * hat. 3.5. An example of the determination of hwav em: wav etsim 2° hway.im (from figure 2) is as follows. Given quantities: BID=05 C12 = 85 x 10-8 m=6x106m Invay =x 10-8 m i=6 5x 10-8m ia = nin e=1- ae 09 STD-ISO 7902-3-ENGL 1998 MM 4851903 0799423 74, mm eso ISO 7902-3:1998(E) With B/D = 0, figure 2 gives £ = 0,86. With i= 6 and e = 0,9, figure 2 gives G = 1,85. Hence 5x 10-8 m=2,32 x 10-6 m and yy = 6 10-6 m+ 2,92 x 10-8 m= 8,32 x10 m Since himin > hime in = 8,5 x 10-6 m is permissible. Inyay tim = 85% 10-6 m ~ 8x 10-6 m=25 x 10-6 m 1,85 25 x 10-6 m= 5,38 x 10-6 m bwavsim = 996 3.6. In general, deviations of form are irregular. For the determination of fiyvay.et the waves in the sliding surtace area under load are significant. For running-in processes under low load and sliding velocity, itis possible to allow a lower minimum film thickness ‘owing to the smoothing and adjusting of the sliding surfaces. If necessary, a bearing material having a good running-in ability shall be used, Table 1 gives empirical permissible values for hyjy, in which a mean peak-to-valley height of Rzj = 4 ym for the shaft, minor geometrical errors of the sliding surfaces, careful assembly and adequate filtering of the lubricant are assumed, Figure 1 — Minimum permissible lubrication film thickness when no running-in process is allowed STD-TSO 7902-3-ENGL 2998 MM 4852903 O745424 baz ISO 7902-3:1998(E) e180 2 l 3 20 0 02 0.4 0.6 0.8 1 8=0,98 6 SS ou ! 0 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 ‘Number of waves /at the periphery ofthe sling surface ofthe bearing or the shaft m= Figure 2 — Determination of the effective waviness hyav cf and the maximum permissible effective waviness hav elim STD-ISO 7902-3-ENGL 1998 MM 4851903 0749425 519 mm e180 ISO 7902-3:1998(E) Table 1 — Empirical permissible values for the minimum permissible least lubricant film thickness, him Minimum permissible thicknesses in micrometres Shaft dlameter, Sliding velocity of shaft, Uy Ds mis mom, Sey=at0 | W
