TOPO SURFACE PLACE POINTS - EXERCISE
1. Create a new Revit project using
Default.rte template.
2. Go to Floor Plans: Site
3. Massing & Site tab -> Model
Site panel -> Toposurface 1

4. Modify|Edit Surface tab -> Tools

panel -> Place Point
5. From the options bar, select
Absolute Elevation -> Set the
elevation at 0.0 -> Create four
points in the drawing area as
shown in Fig 1.
6. Surface panel -> Finish
TOPO SURFACE PLACE POINTS - EXERCISE
7. Select the surface -> Edit Surface
8. Modify|Edit Surface tab -> Tools panel -> Place Point
9. From the options bar, select Absolute Elevation -> Set the
elevation at 5m -> Create four points in the drawing area as
shown in Fig 1. 1

10. Surface panel -> Finish

11. Go to 3D View to view your toposurface.

2
TOPO SURFACE IMPORT POINTS - EXERCISE
1. Open MS Excel -> Open the sample file from the
tutorials ‘Surface Points File PENZD (space
delimited).txt’ 1

2. Text Import Wizard will open -> select Delimited

(Fig 1) -> Next
3. Select Space as the Delimiters -> Next -> Finish
4. The file will open in excel.
5. Delete the first column with the points number.
6. Save this file as CSV (Comma delimited) file format 2
(Fig 2)
7. Close this file and Exit MS Excel.
TOPO SURFACE IMPORT POINTS - EXERCISE
8. Open your project in Revit -> Go to Site plan
9. Massing & Site tab -> Model Site panel -> 1
Toposurface
10. Tools panel -> Create from Import drop-down ->
2
Specify Points File (Fig 1)
11. Select the CSV file that you created.
12. Specify Units as Meters.
13. After the toposurface is created, go to Surface 3
panel -> Finish (Fig 2)
14. Go to 3D View to view the surface. (Fig 3)
PROJECT BASE POINT - EXERCISE
1. Go to North Elevation.
1
2. Visibility Graphics (VV/VG)s -> Site category ->Turn on the
Project Base Point
3. Select the project Base point -> Unclip the base point -> 2
Change the elevation to120m
4. Clip the base point again after it has taken the new position.
5. Change the elevation of Level 1 to 0.00
3
6. Change the elevation of Level 2 to 3m
LABEL CONTOURS- EXERCISE
1. Go to Site Plan
2. Massing & Site tab -> Label Contours
3. Draw a line across the contours.
4. You will see that labels have been placed
where the contours intersect the line.
BUILDING PAD - EXERCISE
1
1. Go to Level 1.
2. Visibility Graphics -> Turn on Topography
3. Massing & Site tab -> Building Pad
4. Draw a rectangle of 20m x 20m as shown in Fig 1
5. Mode Panel -> Finish
6. Go to 3D view to see the building pad has been 2
created at Level 1 which is at 120m height and thus, the
site requires filling at this position. (Fig 2)
7. Select the building pad -> from properties palette,
change the height offset to -15m from Level 1.
8. You can see that Building pad has adjusted and shows
that the site requires cutting at this position. (Fig 3)
3
SUBREGION- EXERCISE
1
1. Go to Site Plan.
2. Massing & Site tab -> Modify Site panel ->
Subregion
3. Draw a closed loop as shown in Fig 1.
4. Properties palette -> Specify Material as
Asphalt/any other of your choice 3 2

5. Model -> Finish

6. Select the subregion.
7. From properties palette, you can see the projected
and surface area of the subregion.
1

SITE COMPONENTS - EXERCISE

1. Go to Site Plan.
2. Massing & Site tab -> Modify Site panel -> Site
Components
3. Choose any of the Tree family types from the type
selector.
4. Place a few trees as shown in Fig 1 2
5. Go to 3D View and change the Display Style to
Realistic to view the trees.
1

SPLIT/MERGE SURFACE - EXERCISE

1. Go to Site Plan.
2. Massing & Site tab -> Modify Site panel -> Split Surface
3. Select the surface that you want to split
4. Draw a shape in a way that splits the surface exactly in
two pieces.
5. Model panel -> Finish 2
6. The surface is split in two pieces.
7. To merge the surfaces back, Go to Massing & Site tab ->
Modify Site panel -> Merge Surface
8. Select the primary surface to merge and then select the
secondary surface to merge into the primary surface.
