“MINI Elephant Nina”

Materials
- 2,5 mm (US 1 ½) hook
- 3,0 mm (US 2 1⁄2) needles
- 5 different yarns calling for 2,5 mm (US 1 ½) hook
- stuffing
- 2 safety eyes 6 mm

MINI Elephant Nina turns out at a size of 10 cm with the yarn I used (sockyarn). If you are choose other
yarn with smaller ore bigger gauge the dolls measurements will change. So you have to correct the
eyes-size.
Yarns
I used the following yarns:

Grey for the head, body, arms and legs,


Regia Uni 4-ply, color 2070 (+/- 15 gr)
Sand for the arms, legs and ears,
Regia Uni 4-ply, color 17
Pink for the sweater,
Regia Melange 4-ply, color 2242
White for the sweater,
Regia Uni 4-ply, color 2080
Blue for the scarf,
Regia Melange 4-ply, color 2241

Abbreviations

Head
Make a loop with grey.

Round: 11. 6x (3 sc, 2sc inc, 3 sc) (48 sts)


1. 6 sc in the yarn loop and tighten the loop
12. 6x (sc in next 7 st, 2sc inc) (54 sts)
2. 2 sc in each st around (12 sts)
13.-15. 54 sc (3 rounds)
3. 6x (sc in next st, 2sc inc) (18 sts)
16. 6x (sc in next 7 st, sc2tog) (48 sts)
4. 6x (1 sc, 2sc inc, 1 sc) (24 sts)
17. 6 x (3 sc, sc2tog, 3 sc) (42 sts)
5. 6x (sc in next 3 st, 2sc inc) (30 sts)

Place safety eyes between row 14 and 15 with 9 sc between. Break yarn and fil the head with stuffing material.

Trunk
Make a loop with grey.

Round:
1. 6 sc in the yarn loop and tighten the loop
2. 2 sc in each st around (12 sts)
3. 12 sc (back loop only)
4. 12 sc
5. 3x (sc in next 2 st, sc2tog) (9 sts)
6.-10. 9 sc (5 rounds)
11. 3x (sc in next 2 st, 2sc inc) (12 sts)
12.-13. 12 sc (2 rounds)
14. 3x (sc in next 3 st, 2sc inc) (15 sts)
15.-16. 15 sc (2 rounds)
17. 3x (sc in next st, 2sc inc) (18 sts)
18. 18 sc

Break yarn and leave enough yarn to sew the trunk onto the head. Fill with stuffing material and place the trunk
between the eyes at round 14 of the head.
For a sweet look, you can make the eyes slightly closer to each other with a long piece of grey yarn. Insert the
needle into the neck to the 1st eye and then go to the other one. Repeat several times and pull between the wire
lightly. Fasten off. Apply some brush on the cheeks.

Body
Make a loop with grey.

Round:
1. 6 sc in the yarn loop and tighten the loop
2. 2 sc in each st around (12 sts)
3. 6x (sc in next st, 2sc inc) (18 sts)
4. 6x (1 sc, 2sc inc, 1 sc) (24 sts)
5. 6x (sc in next 3 st, 2sc inc) (30 sts)
6. 6x (2 sc, 2sc inc, 2 sc) (36 sts)
7. 6x (sc in next 5 st, 2sc inc) (42 sts)
8.-11. 42 sc (4 rounds)
Change color and continue with pink.
12. 42 sc
13. 42 sc (back loop only)
14. 42 sc
Change color and continue with white. 19.-20. 30 sc (2 rounds)
From here: change color every 2 rounds. 21. 6x (sc in next 3 st, sc2tog) (24 sts)
15. 6x (sc in next 5 st, sc2tog) (36 sts) 22.-23. 24 sc (2 rounds)

Break yarn and make sure you leave enough yarn to sew the head onto the body. Fill with stuffing material.
Work with white yarn 2 rows 42 sc on the loops of round 13 (see picture).

Legs

Make a loop with sand.

Round:
1. 6 sc in the yarn loop and tighten the loop
2. 2 sc in each st around (12 sts)
3. 6x (sc in next st, 2sc inc) (18 sts)
4. 6x (1 sc, 2sc inc, 1 sc) (24 sts)
Change color and continue with grey.
5. 24 sc (back loop only)
6. 24 sc
7. 3x (sc in next 6 st, sc2tog) (21 dcs)
8. 21 sc
9. 7 sc, 3x (sc2tog), 8 sc (18 sts) 14.-15. 12 sc (2 rounds)
10. 6 sc, 3x (sc2tog), 6 sc (15 sts) Fill the leg with stuffing material.
11.-12. 15 sc (2 rounds) 16. 3x (sc in next 2 st, sc2tog) (9 sts)

Fill the leg with stuffing material. Tie-off and make another one.

To connect the legs onto the body take a long piece of grey yarn, put the needle through the top of the leg
(between round 3 and 4 counted from the top), then through the body (between row 6 and 7) and then through the
2nd leg. Go the same way back through the body and leg. Repeat this and fasten off. In this way, the legs remain
movable.

Arms
Make a loop with sand.

Round:
1. 5 sc in the yarn loop and tighten the loop.
2. 2 sc in each st around (10 sts)
3. 5x (sc in next st, 2sc inc) (15 sts)
Change color and continue with grey.
4. 15 sc (back loop only)
5.-6. 15 sc (2 rounds)
7. 3x (sc in next 3 st, sc2tog) (12 sts)
Change color and continue with pink.
8. 12 sc
9. 12 sc (back loop only)
10. sc2tog, 10 sc (11 dcs)
Change color and continue with white.
From here: change color every 2 rounds.
11.-12. 11 sc (2 rounds)
13. sc2tog, 9 sc (10 sts)
14.-16. 10 sc (3 rounds)
17. sc2tog, 8 sc (9 sts)
18.-19. 9 sc (2 rounds)

Fill the arms with stuffing material and sew or sc tog the 2 opposed st (sc 4) after it’s done break yarn and make
sure you leave enough yarn to attach the arms onto the body. Make another one. Work with white yarn 2 rows
12 sc on the loops of round 9. Sew the arms onto the body.

Ears
Inside ear (make 2 of them)
Make a loop with sand.

Round:
1. 6 sc in the yarn loop and tighten the loop
2. 2 sc in each st around (12 sts)
3. 6x (sc in next st, 2sc inc) (18 sts)
4. 6x (1 sc, 2sc inc, 1 sc) (24 sts)
5. 6x (sc in next 3 st, 2sc inc) (30 sts)
6. 2 sc, 2sc inc, 4 sc, 2sc inc, 1 hdc, 1 hdc + 1 dc in next sc, 1 dc, 1 dc + 1 hdc in next sc, 1 hdc, 1 sc,
1 hdc, 1 hdc + 1 dc in next sc, 1 dc, 1 dc + 1 hdc in next sc, 1 hdc, 3 sc, 2sc inc, 4 sc, 2sc inc,
2 sc = total 38 sc.
Break yarn.

Outside ear (make 2 of them)


Use the instructions above to make a similar piece with grey yarn, but this time: DON’T BREAK YARN.
To connect the both pieces turn wrong sides together and work the following round:
Start in the 4th sc of the sand piece (picture 1) and work 38 sc around (picture 2).
From here: sc the 2 opposed st together (5 sc) (picture 3). Place the ears at round 11 and 16 of the head.

Tail
Make with grey a foundation chain of 6. Start in the 2th chain from hook and work 5 sc.
Break yarn and make sure you leave enough yarn to sew the tail onto the body (row 6). Finally add some fringe
ad the end of the tail. For a fluffy effect, you can comb the yarn with a tooth comb.

Scarf (knitting)
Use 3,0 mm (US 2 1⁄2) needles.
Count on 5 sts on 3,0 mm (US 2 1⁄2) needles.
1. row p first row (WS) – turn
2. row k next row (RS) – turn
Repeat in stockinette stitch until scarf measures 30 cm. Bind off with RS facing and break yarn.
