PA Resources – The Looting Machine

You will do research on the way multinational corporations (MNO’s) extract resources globally. You
will present this in a visual overview where you will connect the dots like in a crime scene investigative
style. You start with the location of the headquarters (HQ) and work your way towards the source for
the resources. It is important that the supply chain is visible. Instead of beginning at the start of the
supply chain, we begin at the HQ and work our way back to the resources.

The supply chain is divided into natural resources, semi-finished products and finished products. It is
therefore important that you show the production locations and how they are connected to the supply
chain. You will do this by presenting the information on a detective board. The assignment can be
done alone, in pairs or in groups of three.

Contents of the practical assignment (PA):

o A detective board with clear lines.
o Visuals of:
o Resources/products in supply chain (from start to finish) begin by determining:

▪ Where do the natural resources go to?
▪ Where do the semi-finished products go to?
▪ Where do the finished products go to?
o People responsible
o News articles
o Effects of extracting natural resources
o Effects of manufacturing natural resources into (semi-)finished products
