What is Air Pressure?
Air pressure is the pressure of air,
quite self explanatory. Just
kidding. Air pressure due to the
weight of the overlying
atmosphere pushing down on any
given reason.

Measuring Air Pressure

Air pressure is measured
with instruments called
barometers. There are two Aneroid
types of barometers, the Barometer
mercury barometer and the
aneroid barometer. So air
pressure is measured in
inches of mercury.

Temperature Effects on Air Pressure
Change in the temperature of the
air causes change in air pressure.
As the temperature increases, the
air expands, so the air pressure
decreases. As the temperature
decreases, it works oppositely.

Water Vapor Effects on Air Pressure

The greater the
amount of water vapor
in the air, the lower the
air pressure. The water
vapor is also known
commonly as humidity.
Altitude Effects on Air Pressure
As the altitude or elevation
increases, air pressure
decreases. The higher you
go, the less gas there is
above you, thus less oxygen.
This is where the term "short
of breath" comes in.
What Are Isobars?
Isobars are lines of constant or
equal pressure on a weather map.
They can be used to find areas of
low or high pressure over a broad
area.
What is Wind and How do We Measure it?
Wind is the movement of air, caused
by the uneven heating of the Earth by
the sun and the Earth's own rotation.
We measure wind speed with an
instrument called an anemometer,
which is kind of like one of those
spinning dial things you find on the
top of barns.
