ACTIVITIES FOR GRADE 9 & 10 SCIENCE (JHS) , GENERAL CHEMISTRY (Grade 11) , DISASTER

READINESS AND RISK REDUCTION (Grade 12)

Date: July 3, 2024

Grade 9: Justice Topic: Respiratory System

Activity: Redesign the flow chart!

Flow chart making:

After doing the initial flow chart for the respiratory system. Redesign your
flowchart to incorporate how the circulatory system plays its role in the
distribution of nutrients and oxygen that is needed by our body.

*NOTE: Re-design only, do not change your initial flow chart*

RUBRIC FOR FLOWCHART:

Take home activity: Research

- Research for diseases that affect the respiratory system.

- Search information about the disease, including its symptoms,
treatment, and preventions.

Grade 10: Service and Diligence Topic: Plate Tectonics

Activities: Mapping the Risks

Activity :

- Study the Maps of the Philippines, each represents the risk of regions to
earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions.

Philippine Political map:

Maps:
Take home activity:
- Assess your classroom. Imagine that your school is near epicenter,
coastal area, and volcanoes.
- Provide ways on how you will prepare for these disasters.
- Formulate a simple evacuation plan.

Disaster Readiness and Risk Directions: Read each direction for every part carefully and choose or place the best
Reduction (Grade 12) and appropriate answer.

Part 1: Identify the following hazard according to its type. Place BH if the situation
is a Biological Hazard , GH for Geological Hazard, HH for Hydrometeorological
Hazard, and TH for technological hazard.

1. Pathogens
2. Toxins
3. Volcanic eruptions
4. Allergens
5. Floods
6. Power outage
7. Vehicular Accident
8. Landslides
9. Drought
10. Cybersecurity

Part 2: Identify the following situations. Identify what factors are being
highlighted that either aggravate or mitigate the effects of hazards, affecting the
degree or scope of disaster. Choose from the box below.
1. Experiencing a traumatic event can increase the risk of developing
anxiety or depression.
2. Implementing mosquito control programs, such as insecticide use and habitat
modification, can reduce the risk of mosquito-borne diseases.
3. Using proper building materials and engineering techniques can

strengthen structures to withstand earthquakes better.

4. Having access to relaxation techniques, such as meditation or yoga, can
help manage stress and improve mental well-being.
5. Living in a community with high crime rates can increase the risk of
violence and victimization.
6. A government with weak environmental regulations can lead to
increased pollution and environmental degradation.
7. Getting vaccinated and following proper hygiene practices can help
reduce the risk of contracting infectious diseases.
8. Getting vaccinated and following proper hygiene practices can help
reduce the risk of contracting infectious diseases.
9. Conducting public education campaigns and providing disaster
preparedness training can reduce fear and anxiety and empower
people to take action.
10. Deforestation can increase the risk of landslides during heavy rains.

Part 3: Fill in the blanks to complete the statement. Choose from the word
box below.

● (1) hazards are naturally occurring physical

phenomena caused either by rapid or slow onset of events which
can be (2) , hydrological,
(3) , meteorological, and biological.
● (4) the possibility that something (5)
will happen.

General Chemistry (Grade 11) Lecture:

Take home activity:

- Answer the following:

ACTIVITIES FOR GRADE 9 & 10 SCIENCE (JHS) , DISASTER READINESS AND RISK
REDUCTION

Date: July 2, 2024

Grade 9: Justice Topic: Respiratory System

Activities: Flow chart

Flow chart making:

After reviewing the take-home video on the digestive system, create a flowchart to
visualize the process. Start with a symbol for "food intake" and use rectangles to
map the journey of food through the mouth, esophagus, stomach, and intestines.
Include diamonds for any important processes (like digestion vs. elimination) and
arrows to show the flow. Finish with an "End" symbol for waste elimination. Keep
your flowchart neat and clear.

RUBRIC FOR FLOWCHART:

Take home activity: Research

- Using trusted search engines, research on how the respiratory

system works hand-in-hand with the circulatory system.
- You can take your notes as you watch videos or read articles about the
concept.

Grade 10: Service and Diligence Topic: Plate Tectonics

Activities: Distribution of Earthquakes and Volcanoes

Activity : Where Edges Meet!

Questions to answer: 1.

Map 1:
2.

Map 2:
