Introductory Message
For the facilitator:
Welcome to the Technology and Livelihood Education 9 Project CAP-LRE Alternative
Delivery Mode (ADM) Module on Industrial Arts – Electrical Installation Maintenance -
Analyzing Signs, Electrical Symbols and Data .
This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by educators from public
institutions to assist you, the teacher or facilitator, in helping the learners meet the standards
set by the K to 12 Curriculum while overcoming their personal, social, and economic
constraints in schooling.
This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and independent learning
activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this also aims to help learners acquire the
needed 21st century skills while taking into consideration their needs and circumstances.
In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the body of the module:

As a facilitator, you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this module. You also
need to keep track of the learners’ progress while allowing them to manage their own learning.
Furthermore, you are expected to encourage and assist the learners as they do the tasks
included in the module.

For the learner:

Welcome to the Technology and Livelihood Education 9 Project CAP-LRE Alternative

Delivery Mode (ADM) Module on Industrial Arts – Electrical Installation Maintenance -
Analyzing Signs, Electrical Symbols and Data .
This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful opportunities for guided
and independent learning at your own pace and time. You will be enabled to process the
contents of the learning resource while being an active learner.
This module has the following parts and corresponding icons:

1
At the end of this module you will also find:
References This is a list of all sources used in developing this module.
The following are some reminders in using this module:
1. Use the module with care. Do not put unnecessary mark/s on any part of the module.
Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the exercises.
2. Don’t forget to answer What I Know before moving on to the other activities included
in the module.
3. Read the instruction carefully before doing each task.
4. Observe honesty and integrity in doing the tasks and checking your answers.
5. Finish the task at hand before proceeding to the next.
6. Return this module to your teacher/facilitator once you are through with it.

If you encounter any difficulty in answering the tasks in this module, do not hesitate to consult
your teacher or facilitator. Always bear in mind that you are not alone.
We hope that through this material, you will experience meaningful learning and gain deep
understanding of the relevant competencies. You can do it!

2
What I Need to Know

This module provides discussion and series of activities that will give you a deep
understanding about analyzing signs, electrical symbols and data

At the end of this module you are expected to:

1. identify and interpret electrical signs, symbols and data;

2. analyze electrical components and materials based on electrical signs,
symbols and data.
3.show accurate interpretation and analysis of electrical components and materials
based on electrical signs, symbols and data of data

What I Know

Good day! I hope that you are energized today. Make yourself physically and
mentally ready for our new lesson. But before that, let us check your prior knowledge about
our new lesson. Try to answer the following questions.

Like it or not!
Directions: The following are the symbols and their descriptions used in an electrical
installation. Analyze the symbol and its function carefully. Choose the thumbs up
icon if it’s paired up correctly and thumbs down icon if otherwise. Write you answer on your
answer sheet.

activities. Enjoy learning!

What’s In

Directions: In the previous lesson, you have learned about measurements and calculations.
Let us do this activity. Fill in the blanks.

Multimeter is also known as (1)_________. It is an electronic measuring instrument

that combines several measurement functions that can measure (2)____________,
(3)___________, and (4)___________. There are two types of multimeter, the
(5)_________ and (6)_________. In using the multimeter the unit of measurement to
be used to determine its resistance is (7)_____________. It has a different range in
computing for resistance (8)_____, (9)_______, (10)_______ and (11)_______, while in
voltage scale the ranges used are (12)_______, (13)______, (14)_______, and
(15)______.

What is It

The electrical symbols and description are essential because this would help you
simplify the drafting and understand the drawing. In order to achieve the ability to interpret
the drawings and their related symbol meanings, electrical symbols added lines, dots,
shadings, letters, and numbers to give a specific meaning to a symbol.

Practically any electrical fixture found in a house has a symbol written in an electrical
wiring diagram. These are very useful guide for a certified electrician thus, making the
wiring easier to install as well.

Electrical Symbols

• a pictogram or small drawing that is used to represent

various electrical and electronic devices or plan of an electrical circuit, such as wires,
batteries, resistors, and transistors, in a schematic diagram for numerous types of
electrical works.

ELECTRICAL SIGNS

Electrical Sign is a warning icon in a picture symbol intended to alert you or instruct you
how to avoid potentially hazardous. Designed to protect individuals and to ensure necessary
controls are being practice for the safe use of electricity at work.

A large part of being safe around electricity understands common electrical signs,
whether you work in direct contact with electricity or simply encounter electrical appliances at
home.

Proper electrical signs can alert everyone to electrical hazards in the area and workers
to high voltage areas, electrical hazards, power lines and other electrical equipment in the
area.

Safety alert- indicates that a person should observe extra

awareness.

Prohibition- means that any activity is not allowed as

stated by the symbol.

Wear eye protection- indicates that a person should

wear safety goggles or any related protection for the eyes.

Read and understand instruction manual- means

that a person should make some reading before doing any
activity.

7
Electrical hazard- indicates that electrical hazard is
present in the area.

Voltage danger- indicates high voltage in the area

and surrounding equipment.

CAUTION- indicates some precautionary measures

against potential hazardous situation which, if not avoided,
may result to a minor or moderate injury.

DANGER- specifies hazardous situation which, if not

avoided, will result to a serious injury or even death.

WARNING specifies a potentially hazardous situation

which, if not avoided, could result to serious injury or even
death.
