Due to the advancement of technology, we have easy access to information, but

it is also easy to spread fake news particularly on social media. Luckily, technology is
also advanced enough to be able to help us verify information.

Checking the source or author of the information is one way of knowing the
reliability of the information. Websites that end with . gov, . edu, . ac, are generally
considered as credible sources. You could also analyze the article to verify that the
information offers an unbiased approach.There are also fact checking sites such as
FactCheck.org that fact-check statements by major institutions and other widely
circulated claims of interest to society to reduce the level of deception and confusion of
the public.

We could also be the cause of misinformation ourselves. We often share posts

about controversial topics on social media without verifying the information. Before
sharing posts we must check the accuracy; is the post free from errors like typos,
Objectivity; is the information presented with the least amount of prejudice, Authority;
who is the author or site, and Timeliness; is the post or information recent. This way, we
can help filter information that is spread in social media.
