Q31. Solve 2x + 3y = 11 and x-2 y = -12 algebraically and hence find the value of m for which y = mx + 3
3.
2x – 3y = 11 …………….. (i)
x – 2y = – 12 …………….. (ii)
(ii) ⇒ x = 2y – 12 ……. (iii)
Substitute value of x from (iii) in (i), we get
2(2y – 12) + 3y = 11
⇒ 4y – 24 + 3y = 11
⇒ 7y = 35
⇒y=5
Substituting value of y = 5 in equation (iii), we get
4 = 2(5) – 12 = 10 – 12 = – 2
Hence, x = – 2, y = 5 is the required solution
Now, 5 = – 2m + 3
⇒ 2m = 3 – 5
⇒ 2m = – 2
⇒m=–1

following questions

1
(i) Find the length of BC.
Using Pythagorean Theorem EB² + EC² = BC²

=> 3² + 4² = BC² => 5² = BC² => BC = 5

(ii) ) If triangles AED and BEC similar by SAS , then write the correspondence .
AE/BE = ED/EC and Angle AED = Angle BEC

(iii) What is the length of AD and AE?

Ratio of corresponding sides of similar triangle is equal
Ratio of corresponding sides of similar triangles = Ratio of perimeter

AD/BC = 2/3 AD/BC = 2/3

=> AD/5 = 2/3 => AD = 10/3 cm

AE/BE = 2/3

=> AE = (2/3) BE

AE = √AD² - DE²
AE = (2/3 )√BC² -CE²
