Topic: Preventive Measures Against Cultism

We all know cultism is a social crime and their activities are often laden with blood. Therefore,
the following measures can be taken.
1. Parents should pay more attention to their children's upbringing and educate them
properly on acceptable norms and values.
2. Educational institutions and the government should ensure very strict laws against
cultists and strictly enforce such laws.
3. Religious organizations should specifically organize religious programmes to preach
against cultists.
4. Authorities of schools and the government should also organize programmes to preach
against cultism and its adverse effect of cultism. Students should be encouraged to work
hard.
5. The media should encourage and organize programmes that would sensitive the youths
to the dangers of cultism.
6. There should be more counselling units in schools.
7. Shiffer punishment for cult members serves as a deterrent to others.
8. Students can also be engaged more in sporting activities
9. Politicians, wealthy and influential members of the public should desist from
patronizing, protecting and rendering financial support to cult groups.
10. Those who are found guilty of cultism should not only be sent to prison but should also
be made to spend some time in a psychiatric institution
Factors hindering the eradication of cultism in Nigeria
There are so many reasons/factors hindering the eradication of cultism in the country. Here are
some of them.
1. Non-implementation of punishment sanctions designed for cultists.
2. Unconducive learning environment, an attitude of indifference to cultism by the school
administration.
3. Strong commitment to oats by members
4. Involvement of parents/teachers/godfathers that were cult members
5. Exposure to negative media influence by violence/crime-related films
6. General economic hardship/poverty in the society
7. Admission of expelled cultists into schools and colleges.
