o What is animal cruelty?

Animal cruelty is defined as the negligence to provide proper physical and

psychological welfare to animals by depriving them of sufficient habitation,
nourishment, and general attention. It is also irresponsible behavior that frequently
involves maltreatment, brutality, torture, and exploitation.

Animal cruelty often occurs in various circumstances that affect a wide range of
victims; it can be animal abuse or neglect, both of which are current and relevant in
modern society, or it can entail intentionally harming or failing to meet and fulfill
the needs of animals.

o Cases of Animal Cruelty in the world

According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals,

approximately 6.5 million animals enter animal shelters yearly, only 3.2 million are
adopted, and over 1.5 million are euthanized.

According to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, over 115 million animals
are used in scientific trials or laboratory experiments for testing and research
worldwide.
According to Last Chance for Animals, about 97% of all abused and killed animals
yearly are farm animals utilized to generate products such as eggs, milk, meat, and
leather to maximize profit.

o Cases in the Philippines

According to the Philippines Animal Welfare Society, twelve million stray dogs and
cats roamed the country in 2019, with an average of 200 dogs put to death in every
city pound each month due to starvation, illnesses, or people killing them.

According to the Philippine Animal Welfare Organization (PAWS), animal abuse

increased during the Covid-19 outbreak. The government and animal rights
activists are struggling with the current situation, reporting that they receive 80-100
animal cruelty complaints each day, up from 40-50 incidents documented before the
pandemic.

Furthermore, in 2020, PAWS member Maricel Polido filed a case against

veterinarians in Manila who allowed 60 cats to be crammed into a 2-foot-by-3-foot
cage, subjecting them to starvation.

o Cases in Angeles

According to the Animal Kingdom Foundation, in 2021, animals were irresponsibly

left behind and found in an abandoned building suffering from hunger,
dehydration, and insufficient attention.

In the same year, a poor dog was set to be slaughtered in Cutucud, Angeles,
Pampanga. The dog was saved when barangay authorities proactively joined the
urgent rescue mission.

Furthermore, in 2022, a dog with a huge lump hanging down her skin is enduring
severe pain and discomfort due to a car accident she got involved in years before.
This dog's owner let her suffer, but after multiple concerned individuals reported
the happening, officials rescued and rehabilitated the animal.

 Fourth Post (Cases of Animal Cruelty): (Caption) (Alone)

What is animal cruelty, and how rampant is it in today's modern world?

Animal cruelty encompasses various cases of abuse, from failing to provide vital
care to intentionally killing or torturing animals. Each country defines animal
cruelty differently, Each country defines animal cruelty differently, covering
criminal actions and animal rights violations.

Thus, to advocate and fight for animal welfare standards across the world, we must
first recognize and educate ourselves on the factors that contribute to the problem,
its prevalence, and all cases of animal cruelty. With this, we can generate distinctive
analytic questions, effective responses, essential interventions, and suitable solutions
to eradicate and abolish any form of animal abuse and exploitation.

Project SIWALA strives to increase public awareness that animals are vulnerable,
sensitive, and intellectual beings who deserve to be treated with kindness, dignity,
and respect. These cases of animal cruelty may serve as a wake-up call to the vitality
and significance of taking immediate action to reduce the rate of animal fatalities
caused by neglect and violence.

 Seventh Post (Ways to show Animal Welfare): (Caption)(Alone)

o How to show animal welfare (different actions)

How can we promote animal welfare?

“Every single action can contribute to animal salvation.”

Project SIWALA envisions a world free from suffering and violence for animals.
Thus, as members of the community, let us embrace our capabilities and power to
make an effort and contribute to transformation toward improving and
strengthening animal welfare. We must awaken our minds and hearts and carry out
necessary actions to show adequate love, care, and attention; we must be the
epitome of righteousness, compassion, and generosity.

United as one, let us cooperate and collaborate in following these presented ways
and approaches to boost animal welfare in the community leading to a brighter and
promising tomorrow. We must serve as a voice and pillar of strength to guarantee
that animals will have the capacity to experience a happy and healthy existence with
harmony and peace in their environment. With every single step, we can make the
world a better and safer place for all living creatures.

“In the middle of darkness, let us serve as a light to achieve greatness.”
