SITE VISIT REPORT ON SOIL TEST LAB

Date & Day :

Venue : civil engineering department of pccoe,

Nigdi
Purpose of visit : To studydetail of soil testing ,which
includes knowledge about machine use .
Objective :
• CBR testing apparatus
• Nuclear moisture density Guage
• Speedy moisture meter
• Unconfined compression test apparatus
• Water still
•Compaction apparatus complete with
Collar base plate &hammer
• Sand pouring cylinder with conical
Funnel and tap
Brief :

In the visit we got detail information about soil

testing with machine's use and process of work .
testing is very important for building construction.
Soil testing is important to check the SBC of soil.
Soil condition give information about workability.
and check the soil resist to any earthquake.
Introduction to soil study:
The visit began with an introduction to the importance of
soil
study in civil engineering projects.
The lab staff explained the various factors that need to
be considered, such as soil composition, moisture
content, and compaction.
Demonstration of soil testing equipment: The lab staff
demonstrated the different types of equipment used for
soil testing, including a sieve shaker, hydrometer, and
compaction test apparatus.
They explained the purpose and functioning of each
equipment.
Soil sample collection and preparation: The lab staff
showed how soil samples are collected from different
locations and depths using a soil auger.
They also explained the importance of proper sample
preparation, including removing organic matter and air-
drying the samples.
xParticle size analvsis: The lab staff demonstrated the process of
particle size analysis
using a sieve shaker. They explained how different sieve sizes are
used to separate the
soil particles into different fractions, such as gravel, sand, silt, and
clay.
Alterberg limits test: The lab staff conducted the Atterberg limits
test to determine the
moisture content at which a soil transitions from solid to plastic and
from plastic to liquid
slate. They explained the significance of these limits in assessing the
suitability of solil
for construction.
%. Compaction test: The lab stalf demonstrated the compaction test
to determine ther
naximum dry density and optimum moisture content of a soll
sample. They explained
how compaction is crucial for ensuring stabilty and load-bearing
capacily of the sl.
INTRODUCING EQUIPMENTS FOR TESTING
OF SOIL.

EXPLAINING UNCONFINED COMPRESSION
