KM Helmet/Band Mask Non-Return Valve Pre-Dive Check

utilizing a Hand Operated Vacuum Pump

This procedure is an optional way of testing a Non-Return Valve

Check Helmet/Band Mask gas supply non-return valve with hand vacuum pump as follows:

a. Open EGS valve and steady-flow valve

b. Turn dial-a-breath adjustment knob clockwise (in) until closed

c. Connect hand vacuum pump and vacuum gauge to helmet/band mask main gas umbilical
fitting on non-return valve

d. Pump hand vacuum pump until gauge reads 20 inches of vacuum

e. Wait 1 minute and observe vacuum gauge. Gauge should show a drop of no more than 3
inches of vacuum/pressure in a 1-minute test

f. If greater than 3 inches drop, repair or replace valve

g. Vent vacuum pump and disconnect it from helmet/band mask, stow vacuum test equipment

h. Close steady-flow valve, cap or plug all open ports as required

i. Sign diving log
