Math Holiday Homework

1) Prime numbers have 2 factors. 1 and the number itself: The product
of 2 prime numbers, * and # will have 4 factors: 1, *, # and the product
of * and #. (Option c: exactly 4)

2) Let the total number of fish be x

Two thirds of the fish are minnows = 2/3x
The rest are goldfish = 1/3x = 12

1/3x = 12
Therefore, x = 12 x 3 = 36 fish
(Option d: 36)

3) Total number of toffees = 30

Nina’s toffees = y
Simran’s toffees = 2y
Total = y + 2y = 3y
Therefore a. 3y = 30 is true.

4) Total number of chocolates = (2 x 50) + 5 = 105 chocolates

105 chocolates distributed equally among 35 students = 105/35
Therefore the correct expression is d. ((2x50) + 5)/35

5) Let’s keep n as 5
Therefore, 2n = 2 x 5 = 10
The numbers greater than 5 and less than 10 are 6,7,8,9(There are
4 numbers).
For n=5,
we observe that the numbers between n and 2n are 6,7,8,9
There are 4 numbers. 4 = 5-1 which is n-1
To test it,
n=8
2n=16
Numbers between n and 2n = 9,10,11,12,13,14,15(7 numbers)
n-1=7
Hence proved.

Answer = b. N-1

6) d. Both 1 and 4

7) Both RQ and RP are radii of the circle with center R. Hence, they
are equal.
QP is the radii of the circle with center Q. Since this circle is smaller
than the other, the radii will be shorter.
Therefore, we can say that 2 sides of the triangle are equal so it’s
an isosceles triangle. (Option b. It is an isosceles triangle)

8) c. (-208) + (-2)

9) c. R2 + R3 < R1

10) c. 5

11) 4n+1
4x20+1 = 81
(option d. (20x4) +1

12) ratio of circles to stars in karan’s grid = 3:4

Number of circles in Lakshmi’s grid = 6
3x2=6, 4x2=8
(option a. 8)
13) Each side of the new square EFGH would be half the length of the
side of the original square ABCD. Therefore each side of EFGH would
be k/2. So if the original square’s area is k x k sq cm, the new square’s
area will be half of that. (Option b. ½ k x k sq cm)

14) Each star has 10 sides. Each side measures 5 cm. Therefore the
perimeter of each star is 50cm. So we can say that each star is made
of 50 cm of wire.
No. of stars = 1000/50 = 20 stars
(Option a. 20)

15) b. Only Pair I and III
