2.2.1 Tools
2.2.2 Documentation
Information on which version of XRDI software is released and how it can be obtained:
• In case of a Mammography system, refer to the Mammography Solution Manual
(DD+DIS227.04E).
• In case of a DX-Si system to the DX-Si System Documentation (DD+DIS032.06E).
IMPORTANT:
When performing a clean installation, the ALF should normally still be available and
can be used for the same software version after the clean install.
This is not the case if:
• The ALF got lost after a system crash:
o Fetch it from the Electronic License Management System (ELMS).
INSTRUCTION:
For a detailed description of the procedures to obtain a License File (ALF) refer to the
Licensing Service Manual (DD+DIS012.06E) on MedNet GSO Library
(Intranet Link / Extranet Link).
3.1 Prerequisites
NX Starterkit DVD 1
NX Starterkit DVD 2
For all installations you need to provide the Windows license key for the
operating system. This is often a ‘hologrammed’ sticker attached to the system
itself by the manufacturer. The key itself is referred to as the ‘Product ID’ and
has the form 5 characters in 5 blocks, for example:
HVYF3-T28PW-HWGKB-33J4W-B4VPM
• Network connected:
The system can be connected to a larger network when installing, like the
hospital or company network, but be careful. If other NX systems are installing
at the same time, an IP conflict can occur.
When you log on as administrator you will always have the English version of
Windows XP. Therefore it is easier working with a QWERTY keyboard
(US international) attached when you have to type something.
(5) Deactivate Hyper-threading (not applicable for multiple core CPUs): Select
<Performance\Hyper-Threading> and set to <Off>.
(6) Activate Multiple CPU core (only applicable for multiple core CPUs (e.g.
Dell D830 and Dell Optiplex 755)): Set <Multiple CPU core> to <ON>.
(7) Exit with <ESC> and save the changes.
IMPORTANT:
For both, Installation and Configuration, have your Acceptance Test Protocol document
at hand and fill it in on-the-fly at every installation and configuration step instead of
filling it in afterwards. This saves a lot of time.
The document is available on MedNet GSO library (Intranet Link / Extranet Link).
IMPORTANT:
Installing the OS leads to a removal of all available data on the complete hard disk,
including all existing partitions!
figure 1
(5) Confirm the installation once more by pressing <Y>. Be aware that once you
enter <Y> the (re-)installation is starting, and all data will be erased.

(6) After approx. 5 minutes, the RAID BIOS setting instruction is displayed.
Remove the DVD from the drive and press <CTRL+ALT+DEL> to reboot.
figure 3
IMPORTANT:
Perform the next two steps only on a DELL 755 system. Also perform them
if you are installing a DELL 755 system without RAID!
(7) Enter the BIOS setup by pressing <F2> during booting.
(8) Set ATA/SATA mode to 'RAID ON'.
IMPORTANT:
Perform the next two steps only on a HP system. Also perform them if you
are installing an HP system without RAID!
(9) Enter the BIOS setup by pressing <F10> during booting.
(10) Set Storage Options/SATA emulation to 'RAID'.
(11) From now on the installation is unattended. Your presence is no longer required
until you are prompted to log in.
IMPORTANT:
Don’t click anything until you get the log on screen described below in item 7. It could
interrupt the installation.
The unattended installation consists of the Norton Ghost Restore Procedure, the
Windows XP Setup and post-installation customization.
• Norton Ghost Restore Procedure:
A progress bar indicates the progress of the restore procedure. The PC will
automatically reboot afterwards.
• Windows XP Setup:
During the installation you’ll see a lot of screens of the Windows XP Setup.
Don’t worry, the installation runs in the background.
• Post-installation customization:
Automatic scripts run once the Windows XP Setup process has completed. Wait
until you see the log on screen. Do not interrupt these scripts.
(5) After the unattended installation and the final reboot the log on screen is
displayed. Press <Ctrl-Alt-delete> and log in using Administrator account:
figure 4

figure 8
Result Here ends the Operating System installation. It is now necessary to carry out
some system configuration.
REQUIRED TIME:
Approx. 5 min.
The operating system has now been installed on the System & Configuration partition
(drive letter C:).
For NX we need to define 1 more partition (Data & Backup partition) with
following parameters:
• If possible create the partition on a second hard drive.
• Drive letter: D:
• Volume Label: DATA
• Size: 160 GB
NOTE:
The screenshots below are made on a two hard disk system. If the platform contains
only one harddisk, the previous OS installation step has allocated 25 Gbyte of the first
hard disk found for the C: partition (applicable from XOS 1.0.18 on). The D: partition
has be made manually!
IMPORTANT:
RAID: If the system contains a second harddisk for RAID mirroring, do NOT create
partitions on the second disk.
(1) Right-click ”My Computer” and select “Manage” from the menu:
figure 9
NOTE:
In case of reuse of CR QS hardware, there is still the old CR QS D: and E:
partition. Delete both partitions.
figure 11
figure 12
(7) If the size of the harddisk allows it, set the partition size to 160000. Otherwise
select less. It is not advised to choose a value higher than 160000.
NOTE:
• There might be more disk space available. Anyway, the partition D: should be
limited to 160 GB and partition C: to 25 GB. Those are the capacities that the
software has been tested and verified with.
• Excessive disk space can be used to create an extra partition for
backup purposes.
• When using a laptop platform (e.g. Dell Latitude D830), it may have insufficient
disk space to allocate 160 GB for the second partition. Allocate the full remaining
size to the second partition.
figure 13
figure 14
figure 15
figure 16
Result You will now see your new partition in the computer management window
and the remaining unpartitioned space.
NOTE:
For any additional partition you wish to create, perform these steps again.
REQUIRED TIME:
Approx. 5 min.
IMPORTANT:
Whenever you change language or unicode settings it is advised to use the
Administrator account.
Reason: The service language should always be English. In case service is performed
remotely, the service engineer might not be able to understand the local language.
(1) Log in using the Administrator account (don't use “CRService” account here).
(2) Go to “Start Æ Settings Æ Control Panel”. If the Control Panel is in “Category
View”, click “Switch to classic view”.
(3) Double-click Date & Time and adjust the date and time properties.

profile.
NOTE:
This has only effect when users are not in a domain.
For instructions to
• Change the language of single users,
• Change to non-standard string formats (e.g. Date&Time, figure formats),
• Configure the default language for new NX users,
refer to chapter 04 Appendices “Changing the regional settings of the NX”.
NOTE:
The following steps are only applicable to PCs with SCSI disk, not for SATA disks:
(17) On the desktop, click right on My Computer and select Properties.
(18) Go to tab Hardware and click Device Manager.
(19) Select the disk drive, click right and select Properties.
(20) In the tab 'Policies', enable write caching on the disk.
figure 20
REQUIRED TIME:
Approx. 10 min. per language
Purpose This step installs additional languages for menus and dialogs of NX.
figure 21
NOTE:
After you clicked <OK>, the system might ask for a “cplexe.exe”.
• Do not click <Cancel> (the installation would be cancelled).
• Workaround:
Point manually to the “C:\i386\lang” folder, so that the installation can be continued.
(8) Click <OK> after you got a confirmation that the installation is completed.
(9) If following message appears click <Cancel>:
figure 22
(10) Another dialog box appears, asking for a confirmation, concerning the new file
versions. Click <Yes>:

figure 24
NOTE:
• Keep the language for the “CRService” account to English
Install scripts depend on English as default language.
• The Administrator can define another language during the setup of the account.
Changing the default language for new users will set the logon screen in this
language.
REQUIRED TIME:
Approx. 50 min.
