CHAPTER I

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

INTRODUCTION

In a world where sustainable energy solutions are becoming

increasingly crucial, the construction of small-scale wind turbines stands at

the forefront of innovation. This research paper delves into the development

and construction of a small-scale wind turbine, designed with the practical

purpose of supplying a small-scale load. As the global demand for clean

and renewable energy intensifies, the focus on small-scale, efficient power

generation becomes pivotal, especially in off-grid or remote areas where

access to conventional electricity sources is limited.

This project aims to explore the feasibility and practicality of a small-

scale wind turbine, offering an affordable and eco-friendly alternative for

powering basic electrical devices. By leveraging the power of the wind, this

project not only addresses the pressing need for sustainable energy

solutions but also serves as a testament to the adaptability and ingenuity

that can be employed in harnessing nature's forces for the betterment of

communities.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

General Background

According to (Kishore, Coudron, Priya, 2016) energy is an essential

ingredient of socio-economic development and economic

growth. Renewable energy sources like wind energy is indigenous and can

help in reducing the dependency on fossil fuels. Wind is the indirect form of

solar energy and is always being replenished by the sun. Wind is caused by

differential heating of the earth's surface by the sun. It has been estimated

that roughly 10 million MW of energy are continuously available in the earth's

wind. Wind energy provides a variable and environmentally friendly option

and national energy security at a time when decreasing global reserves of

fossil fuels threatens the long-term sustainability of global economy.

Economics Background

According to (European Wind Energy Association, 2017) one of the

most important economic benefits of wind power is that it reduces the

exposure of our economies to fuel price volatility. power generation.

CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter will discuss the research design and methods used in

the project study. Thus, in this chapter, materials specification, flow of block

diagram, computation, system, and cost of creating this research project are

presented.

Research Method and Design

The researchers will use experimental study in this project study. The

said design is appropriate for the research to use in the study since the main

object of the study is construct a small-scale wind turbine and determine if

there are differences of its performance with respect of time within a day.

The experimental design is suitable to the project study since the

researcher also aims to assess and study the output of the project such as

output voltage, output current, ampere-hour, and watt hour rating. This

design will allow the researchers to conduct an experimental testing of the

project by manipulating variables to get the outputs.

Presentation, Analysis, and Interpretation of Data

This chapter contains the presentation, analysis, and interpretation of

data gathered from the different tests. It aims to answer the following

statement of the problems of the study.

To determine if there is a statistically significant difference of the data,

the three different data samples were analyzed using ANOVA tests. The

statistically tested result (F>F crit) means that the probability of the null

hypotheses is false and should be rejected.

To determine if there is a statistically difference of the data, the data

undergo to post-hoc tests and analyzed using t-tests. The statistically

resulted (p>0.005) means that the probability of the null hypotheses given is

true, whereas (p<0.005) means that the null hypotheses is false and should

be rejected.

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter presents the summary of the findings from the several tests

performed by the prototype and the conclusions and recommendations for

further improvement of the study.

The study aims to construct an portable wind turbine, tests the output

parameters such as output voltage, output current, ampere-hour, and watt-

hour and compare the differences of the output parameters in three different

variations of time. It also sought to determine if there is a significant

difference of the three variations of tests in the performance of the portable

wind turbine.

Summary of Findings

The research resulted in the following findings:

1. The average output voltage of Day 1 is relatively higher as

compared to the Day2 and Day3 output voltages.

2. The average output current of Day 1 is relatively higher as

compared to the Day2 and Day3 output current.

3. The average ampere-hour of Day 1 is relatively higher as

compared to the Day2 and Day3 ampere-hour.
