SECTION A: ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS (55 marks)
Answer 1
Let there be two sets A and B
A is the set of letters in “alloy”
B is the set of letters in “loyal”
Hence,
A = {a,l, o,y} 1mark
B = {l,o,y,a} 1mark
Therefore, in both sets, the elements are the same.
So, A = B.

Answer 2
If U is the universal set for sets A, B and C, then: U = Elements of set A +
Elements of set B + Elements of set C
U = {0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8} (2 marks)
Elements of BC  {2,4,6} (2 marks)
ANSWER 3
a) Q = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5} 2 marks

ANSWER 10
Buying price = 122 500 Frw
Selling price = 147 000 Frw
Profit = selling price – buying price 2 marks
= (147 000 – 122 500)Frw 1mark
= 24 500 Frw 1 mark
ANSWER 11
change in y=(y1−y2) = (6−3) = 3 1mark

ANSWER 20
Cost of each tool = 2 398 FRW
Let the number of tools ordered be n 1 mark
∴ Cost of x tools is 2398× n =2 398n. 2 marks

11
Cost of delivering these tools is 1 499
∴Total cost will be 2 398n + 1 499 2 marks
Since total cost cannot exceed 15 000 .
We have 2 398 n + 1 499 ≤ 15 000 3 marks
⇒ 2398 n ≤ 15 000 – 1 499 2 marks
2398 n ≤ 13501 3 marks
13 501
n   5.63
2398
Since one cannot buy part of a tool, then the number of tools used must be a
whole number
∴n=5 2 marks
