ACTIVITY DESIGN
I. RATIONALE
In line with one of the President’s Ten Point Basic Education Agenda which states that “every child
should be a reader by Grade 1,” the Department of Education (DepEd) is strengthening its reading program
through the implementation of the Early Language, Literacy, and Numeracy Program.The Program will
develop in Filipino children literacy and numeracy skills and attitudes which will contribute to lifelong
learning. More specifically, it aims to improve reading and numeracy skills of Kinder to Grade 3 pupils,
following K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum, and to establish a sustainable and cost-effective professional
development system for teachers as insisted in DO 12, S. 2015 – GUIDELINES ON THE EARLY
LANGUAGE, LITERACY, AND NUMERACY PROGRAM: PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
COMPONENT
For the intermidiate learners of an elementary schools the Pedagogical Retooling in Mathematics,
Languages and Science for Grades 4-6 (PRIMALS GRADES 4-6) is our guide. PRIMALS is a program of
the Department of Education in the Philippines. It is designed to improve the teaching of Mathematics,
Languages and Science for Grades 4-6. The program provides teachers with exemplar lesson plans and
guides for literacy strategies that can be used across the curriculum as stated in DO 42, S. 2017 –
NATIONAL ADOPTION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PHILIPPINE PROFESSIONAL
STANDARDS FOR TEACHERS
With this regard Lavides Elementary School initiated to have a School Based-LAC centered to
discuss the “Tools for Tracking Competencies Covered” on the language and numeracy subjects that served
as tool in the teaching learning process. A tool to have a clear record on the competencies covered in such
time and the reason why there is such an unexpected delay in the teaching and learning process. At present
three (4) teacher out of four (4) teaching personnel are struggling in tracking the competencies covered in a
Multigrade Classroom.
II. OBJECTIVES
A. Terminal Objectives
At the end of this activity, teachers in Lavides Elementary School will be familiarize with the
Competency Tracking Tool.
B. Enabling Objectives
1. To equip you with the necessary knowledge and skills needed in tracking the
competencies contained in the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum.
2. Explain the importance of monitoring the implementation of the K to 12 curriculum
using multigrade instruction.
3. Fill-out a Tracking Competencies Covered template; and
4. Explain how the findings in the competency tracking tool can be used to analyze the
learners’ performance and improve curriculum coverage.
