(The teacher will tell the story using

the flipchart.)

Juan Franciso is the son of a rich

couple. His father owns the largest
hacienda in their village. His mother is
a simple housewife; she doesn't have
to work with the amount of money
they have. Since he is the only child of
a rich couple, this is the reason why he
is too lazy to study.

"I don't need to graduate; well, I don't

need to study because we have lots
of money you and Daddy have," Juan
always reasoned whenever his mother
scolded him for not attending his
class. Juan's unpleasant work
continued. Even his teacher is already
going to his house to say hello and
ask why he is not in class.

"Son, you need to go to school to

study. Education is the only thing that
can never be taken from you by
anyone," said Juan's mother after his
teacher left. The number of times his
teacher visited him at their house was
uncountable.

But Juan is really lazy. He would rather

skip classes and play on the
computer or go for a walk with his
friends.

One day, while Juan and his friend

Pedro were playing on the computer
in his room, he heard a loud scream
from his mother. "John! Juan! Your
daddy," said the mother of the lazy
boy.
Juan's father had a heart attack. This
was followed by various
complications. His dad was in the
hospital for almost two months before
he passed away. Even the hacienda
they owned was sold to pay the
hospital expenses.

"Son, next school year, you have to

go to another school." We can no
longer afford the private school fees in
the village," Juan's mother told him
sadly. There were many times when
Juan had to go to school with an
empty stomach or an empty pocket.
That's when he realized that if he had
studied hard, he would have
graduated from college and been
able to help his mother.
His classmates are younger than him,
and those of his age are already
working. Juan deeply regrets the
wasted time, but there is nothing he
can do. "If I had valued my education
earlier, I wouldn't have had trouble
doing laundry anymore," is the regret
that always comes to him every time
he sees his mother struggling to eat.
