1 INTRODUCTION
The PADS software is a powerful application that provides connectivity to the instruments of the STS XXXX
family: STS 5000, STS 4000, STS 3000. These devices allow performing tests of: CTs, VTs, PTs, CBs and almost
all other power devices of a substation.
The software performs various tasks, such as:
• Create and modify plans containing one or more tests
• Remote control of the execution of test plans (start, interruption, results assessment, etc.)
• Download and save tests results previously performed by the instrument
• Open and save results on the PC
• Print test results
• If necessary, edit the test headers
This program runs under Windows© environment.

details of ISA is opened
4 TEST SELECTION TOOLBAR
On the left of the Home page, it is visible the “Test Selection” toolbar. The main function of this item is to
allow the selection of different test types, and within each type, the selection of a testplan and/or a single
specific test.
The following image exhibits how the toolbar appears at the startup of the software:

Figure 29 - "Test Selection" toolbar

It is possible to select one of the following test types

• Current Transformers
• Voltage Transformers
• Power Transformers
• Circuit Breakers
• Resistance
This selection allows the creation of a testplan. It is possible to add to the testplan one or more tests of the
selected type. On the other hand, the selection of one of the other options (“Control & Measurement”,
“Reactor” and “Tangent Delta & Capacitance”) opens only the specific test and not a testplan made up of
more tests.
When one of the test types described above is selected for the first time, a new testplan is automatically
created, empty.
The following image exhibits a new testplan, empty:

Figure 30 - A new testplan, empty

At the right of the “Test Selection” toolbar, it is now visible the list of buttons, corresponding to the tests that
can be performed on the selected test type.
The main part of the page is now filled with the header of the test and gathers all relevant settings necessary
for the test.
On the right is present a list of all tests included in the test plan, filled accordingly once a new test is executed
or otherwise when added to the test plan by means of the dedicated button.
By selecting a test in the list, or creating it by means of the test button, the main part of the page changes to
present the characteristic data of the test.
The following image exhibits the page with one of the test selected:

Figure 31 - Example of the page with one test selected

By means of the two icons present below the buttons of the available tests, it is possible to switch between
the header settings and the page of the tests currently displayed.
The following image exhibits the two icons:

Figure 32 - Two icons at the bottom of the page

The button “Add new” in the “Test Selection” toolbar allows creation of a new testplan.
Every new testplan created (or loaded by file), is displayed according to its type under the “Add New” button
to allow its selection.
The following image exhibits some different testplan:

Figure 33 - Some different testplan

ATTENTION: : It is possible to display only one testplan at a time, the list of testplans
available for each test type allows its selection and display

The following image exhibits the page in case the selected Test Type includes only one test (“Control &
Measurement”, “Reactor” and “Tangent Delta & Capacitance”):

Figure 34 - Page for a single test

In this case, please note that the list of available tests (typically available on the left of the screen) is not
displayed, as it is treated as a single test and not as part of a testplan.
Navigation between the different test types, testplans and single tests is simple and possible according to
what has been described.
Saving a test refers always to the active testplan, which is the one currently displayed. To save a different
testplan, the user must first select it by clicking on its name in the “Test Selection” toolbar list of opened
testplans.
Opening an existing testplan adds a new item in the list of opened testplans in the “Test Selection” toolbar.
Also the printing options refers to the currently active testplans.
All sections of the page can be stretched or closed to better adapt to the screen resolution (the minimum
required resolution is 1.024x768 pixel, below this resolution it is still possible to use scrollbars to displayed
hidden controls).
The following image exhibits an example of a page where the various sections have been closed to allow
more space to the test details:

Figure 35 - Page with sections are redimensioned

It is possible to close a testplan by means of the classic control of Windows programs (“X” icon at the top
right corner of the page).
Before closing a testplan, a message appears to ask confirmation of any changes been made and prevent loss
of data.
