AIISH imparts training at the undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, post doctoral, diploma and certificate levels. This document is aimed at honing the Clinical skills of young budding professionals to serve the society at a large, At the end of the professional training in academic theory and clinical skills, students of All India Institute of Speech and Hearing owe a solemn duty for providing rehabilitation services to persons with communication disorders. The clinical settings where they work provide unique opportunities, responsibilities as well as challenges. This ‘Code of Clinical Conduct’ seeks to address a vital issue by proclaiming certain set of rules and regulations, They obligate every student to uphold the trust reposed upon them by the society. The statements of this code are not mere verbal assertions. They guide the avid student in personal development. They shape the ethical foundation and become the comerstone not only for the academic or clinical environment, but also during practice of their later and entire professional life STRUCTURE This ‘Code of Clinical Conduct’ is covered under TWO sections: (a) Assertions and Declarations: Checklist of Do’s and Don'ts; and, (b) Expected Professional Conduct and Penalties. The second section has two parts: (BI) Misconduct Deemed as Misdemeanor; and, (B2) Misconduct Deemed as Illegality and Criminality. The students are advised to read this document, understand and assimilate their contents before signing their acceptance in the related form enclosed prior to admission into the Graduate Program in Speech and Hearing in the Institute. ALISH -CCC Assertions and Declarations: Checklist of Do’s and Don'ts Do's: + Acknowledge the source of all information accurately. + Act in a professional capacity with an egalitarian spirit towards all regardless of race, religion, gender, or socioeconomic status. + Advocate for the rights of all individuals with communication disorders. + Be responsible and demonstrate care for all to the best of one’s ability + Be punctual and provide services in a timely manner. + Be truthful in communication to others. + Dress in a manner prescribed by way of using aprons or footwear which is neat, acceptable and professional in appearance while serving the stakeholders. ‘+ Maintain or respect the client’s privacy and confidentiality. + Recognize the limits and jurisdictions with respect to the discipline and seek direction or suggestions from the supervisory staff whenever necessary. + Safeguard the property of the institute including its furniture, fixtures, equipments, books, test materials, records, registers, or any other materials from theft, arson, pasting bills, defacing, disfiguring, tampering, misuse or damage. + Strive and maintain an attitude of cordiality, calm, composure and cooperation despite personal inconvenience, fatigue, professional stress, or private problems. + Strive to achieve and maintain an optimal level of personal health. + Strive to achieve/attain excellence in clinical practice by encouraging lifelong learning and professional development. + Strive to achieve/attain highest levels of moral and ethical principles and accept responsibility for all erroneous aets, if any, either by omission or commission. + Take appropriate action to ensure maximal safety of clients, self and others. + Treat persons with communication disorders and their families with respect and dignity in their presence or while discussing about them with others. + Undertake clinical duties and persevere until they are complete. —_—_——]}$J2Jdoe hie? ALISH -CCC Don'ts: Abstain from sending SMS/MMS, emails or transmission of unsolicited, objectionable and/or censored materials to clients, colleagues or classmates. + Abstain from the use of substances that impair judgment. + Avoid use of offensive language, gestures, or inappropriate remarks on ot about the clients, their family members and professional peers. + Desist from ragging or bullying juniors or seniors either through spoken or written words, or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness, indulging in activities which are likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension, a sense of shame or embarrassment on them. + Refrain from performing any procedure, process or techniques for which you are not adequately trained or wherein the needed authorization has not been procured. BI. Misconduct Deemed as Misdemeanor CCCR or EXPECTED Reporting Time CONDUCT DEEMED Reporting late to scheduled place MISCONDUCT EXPLANATION _Alll students posted in ‘Clinical Services’ are expected to sign in everyday at or before 9:00 AM and 1:30 PM. PENALTY FOR First Lapse: Reporting late is marked as late-in in attendance MISDEMEANOR, register and oral warning is issued by section in charge followed by the Head of the Department Second Lapse: For every 2 late-in in a month, a day's attendance is subtracted with knowledge of the Head of the Department and entry in CCC. AUISH -COC CCR 02 EXREGTED Dress and Grooming code coNDUCT DEEMED Dressed inappropriately MISCONDUCT EXPLANATION ‘Students are expected to wear professionally decent aitire with their full sleeves apron during clinical postings. Wearing of ID card is mandatory for all students during institute hours Male students must come neatly dressed to attend classes/elinics. They should be clean shaven. They should wear their shirt tucked in, the sleeves of a full sleeve shirt should never be rolled up. Jeans, T-shirts, chappals and flip-flops are not permitted. Wearing formal shoes would be encouraged. Any kind of hair dye and spike hair style is strictly prohibited. Female students must wear sarees, churidar or salwar while attending clinics. Wearing of dupattas) chunnis is compulsory. Jeans, T-shirts, skirts, tops with deep neckline, short /sleeveless tops/kurthis and kurthas with high slit at the sides, palazzo are not permitted. Nobody visible painting including mehendi and tattoos. Only one ear ring/top permitted, any kind of hair dye is strictly prohibited. Hair should be tied neatly during the institute hours. PENALTY FOR First Lapse: Oral warning is issued by section in charge MISDEMEANOR followed by the Head of the Department. Second Lapse: The student clinician is instructed to report back with appropriate attire along with entry in CCC. CCCR 08 EXPECTED ‘Applying for leave in advance CONDUCT _——— - ANISH -CCC DEEMED Unauthorized absence i MISCONDUCT EXPLANATION Students are expected to seek prior permission from respective head of department/section before applying for any leave. When posted in ‘therapy’, they are expected to make alternate arrangements for clients assigned to them. Only under rare events of medical emergency or other unforeseen situations, the condition of prior permission is condoned at the discretion of head of department/section. PENALTY FOR First Lapse: Is marked absent for that day and oral warming MISDEMEANOR issued by section in charge followed by the Head of the Department. Second Lapse: Is marked absent for that day and two clock hours is deducted along with entry in CCC. Repetition of unauthorized absence entails deduction of clinical clock hours in multiples. Shortage of clinical attendance disqualifies the student from permission to take their clinical viva voce examinations CCCR 04 EXPECTED Being present at the place of posting He CONDUCT DEEMED Unauthorized Absence at the place of posting MISCONDUCT EXPLANATION No student is permitted to leave the work spot during clinical hours without information except for any emergency. Excuses, such as, for meeting the guide, retum of library books, visit of bank, photocopying, etc., is not entertained. Students are permitted to leave the work spot only during stipulated break time, PENALTY FOR First Lapse: Is marked absent for that day and oral warming is MISDEMEANOR __ issued by section in charge followed by the Head of the Department. Second Lapse: Is marked absent for that day and two clinical clock hours deducted along with written waming and entry in CCC. Repetition of the act results in deduction of clinical clock hours in eee ooo AIISH -CCC multiples CCCR 5 EXPECTED Use of mobile phones only for clinical purpose only CONDUCT DEEMED Use of mobile phones during clinical postings for nonclinical MISCONDUCT —_ purposes EXPLANATION Mobile phones should not be used for any other purposes. PENALTY FOR First Lapse: Oral waming is issued by section in charge followed by MISDEMEANOR the Head of the Department. Second Lapse: 2 clinical clock hours is deducted with fine of Rs. 100/- along with entry in CCC. Repetition of the offense entails deduction of clinical clock hours in multiples. COCR 06 EXPECTED Use of i:pads /Laptops/Notepad Computers for clinical purpose CONDUCT only DEEMED Use of pads, laptops/notepad computers during clinical postings MISCONDUCT —_for nonclinical purposes EXPLANATION Student clinicians are permitied to use laptops/i-pads only for academic and clinical purposes. Their use for any other reason during clinical hours is not allowed. PENALTY FOR First Lapse: Oral waming is issued by section in charge followed by MISDEMEANOR the Head of the Department. Second Lapse: 2 clinical clock hours is deducted with fine of Rs. 100/- along with entry in CCC. Repetition of the offense entails deduction of clinical clock hours in multiples. cCC-R 07 EXPECTED Information to the supervisor about the client. CONDUCT DEEMED ‘No information or late information to the Supervisor/s : ALISH -CCC MISCONDUCT EXPLANATION Student clinicians are expected to inform their concerned supervisor about the assigned clients for speech, language and listening therapy/demonstration sessions within a day and/or for regular sessions within two working days. PENALTY FOR First Lapse: Oral warning is issued by the concemed therapy MISDEMEANOR supervisor. Second Lapse: 2 clinical clock hours is deducted by the concerned therapy supervisor along with entry in CCC. Repetition of the act entails deduction of clinical clock hours in multiples. CCCR 08 EXPECTED Follow the assigned clinical schedule CONDUCT DEEMED ~ Unauthorized cancellation of appointments/Clinical sessions MISCONDUCT EXPLANATION Students should not cancel/postpone appointments of Clients for therapy without prior permission or knowledge of the concemed supervisor/s & section, PENALTY FOR First Lapse: Oral warning is issued by section in charge followed MISDEMEANOR _ by the Head of the Department. Second Lapse: 2 clinical clock hours is deducted along with entry in CCC, Repetition of the act entails deduction of clinical clock hours in multiples CCCR 09 EXPECTED Returning the case files with in stipulated time CONDUCT DEEMED Borrowing/retaining of Case Files MISCONDUCT EXPLANATION Student clinician is disallowed from borrowing and taking case files out of the department. If permitted proper procedure to be followed AMISH -CCC and ensure safe return within stipulated time. PENALTY FOR First Lapse: First Lapse: Oral warning is issued by section in MISDEMEANOR charge followed by the Head of the Department Second Lapse: 2 clinical clock hours is deducted per day per client along with entry in CCC. Repetition of the act results in deduction of clinical clock hours in multiples. CCCR 10 EXPECTED Diagnostic/Therapy Materials CONDUCT DEEMED ‘Not having Diagnostic/Therapy Material MISCONDUCT EXPLANATION Each student clinician is expected to carry one’s own diagnostic and therapy kit. Borrowing of such materials is not allowed. PENALTY FOR First Lapse: Oral waming is issued section in charge information to MISDEMEANOR HOD. Second Lapse: 2 clinical clock hours is deducted per day’s non production of the material along with entry in CCC. Repetition of the act entails deduction of clinical clock hours in multiples, CCC-R mn EXPECTED Inform on Discharge/Discontinuation/Leave taken by Clients CONDUCT DEEMED No information on Discharge/Discontinuation/Leave taken by MISCONDUCT —_ Clients t0 the concern section EXPLANATION Student clinicians are expected to inform the concerned staff about discharge/discontinuation/leave taken by the client attending speech, language and listening therapy. PENALTY FOR MISDEMEANOR First Lapse: Oral waming is issued by section in charge information to HOD. Second Lapse: 2 clinical clock hours is deducted per client per day assigned along with entry in CCC. Repetition of the misdeed entails deduction of clinical clock hours in multiples 10 _—$—$— AMISH -CCC CCC-R 12 er Documentation of Clinical related records EXPECTED Submission of Pre- therapy, Lesson plan, progress & Other CONDUCT clinical related documents Reports DEEMED No/Late submission, Pre- therapy Lesson plan, progress & Other MISCONDUCT clinical related documents reports EXPLANATION © Pre-therapy assessment of client assigned for speech language and listening therapy is to be submitted within three therapy sessions for regular therapy to their respective supervisor/s. Following corrections by the supervisor, re- submissions are to be made within two working days. © Therapy plans are to be submitted within two working days after submission of pre-therapy assessment for speech language and listening therapy for regular therapy to the concemed supervisor. Following corrections by supervisor, re-submissions are to be made within two working days. © Progress reports are to be submitted within 2 working days after discharge/change of clinical posting of the client assigned for speech language and listening therapy to the concemed supervisor. Following corrections given by the supervisor, re-submissions are to be made within 2 working days. © Other clinical related documents are to be submitted within 5 working days after change/completion of clinical postings to the respective clinical mentor. PENALTY FOR First Lapse: Oral waming is issued by the Clinical therapy MISDEMEANOR __ supervisor/s Second Lapse: 2 clinical clock hours is deducted by the concemed therapy supervisor per client per day as assigned along with entry in CCC. Repetitions of the misdeed entail deduction of clinical clock hours in multiples. a AMISH -CCC CCER 3 EXPECTED Preparation of Home Training Program for Clients coNDUCT DEEMED No/Late submission, of home training program MISCONDUCT EXPLANATION Students need to prepare home training program for clients attending. therapy or when the clients are on leave in consultation with the concerned supervisor. Any decision taken by the clinical supervisor in contrary to this is to be informed to the clinical staff. Misconduct Deemed as IIlegality and Criminality CCCR 15 EXPECTED Protection of Property CONDUCT DEEMED Damaging the institute property —_—_— — ALISH -CCC MISCONDUCT EXPLANATION Students are expected to safeguard the property of the institute including its furniture, fixtures, equipments, books, test materials, records, registers, or any other materials from theft, arson, posting bills, defacing, disfiguring, tampering, misuse or damage. Contravening or transgressions on these lines are viewed as criminal mischief or willful malicious destruction of public property, which are deemed as falling under the category of criminal charge and facing a permanent criminal record. PENALTY FOR Restitution, fixing, repairing or replacement of the damage at the MISDEMEANOR least, associated with suspension from clinical services, written recording of the crime, information to parents, counseling and anger management classes and training, along with criminal proceedings as per discretion of the higher authorities CCCR 16 EXPECTED Refrain from forgery a conpuCT DEEMED Forgery MISCONDUCT EXPLANATION Students are strictly forbidden from affixing signatures for or on behalf of other students, staff or faculty or making false instruments, fabricating records, facts or figures with intention that it shall be used to induce another person to accept it as genuine. The Institute is located on a sprawling area of 39 acres (two campuses) in Mysore. The Institute registered as a Society under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 (Punjab Amendment Act, 1957) and its functioning as an autonomous body under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare Established primarily as training institute, it started training programs at postgraduate level in 1967 followed by B.Sc (Speech and Hearing) in 1968. The institute now offers three Diploma programs: Diploma in hearing Aids and Ear mould technology, Diploma in training the Young Hearing Impaired, Diploma in Language, Haring through distance mode; two graduate programs: Bachelors in Audiology, Speech and Language Pathology (B. Sc - Sp & Hg) and B. 8. ED (Hearing Impairment); three Master Programs (M. Sc in Audiology, M. Sc in Speech- Language Pathology and M.S.Ed. in Hearing Impairment); two PG Diploma courses (PG Diploma in Forensic Sciences and Technology, Clinical Linguistics for SLPSs); two doctoral programs (Ph.D. in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology]; and Post Doctoral Fellowships. The institute also conducts short- term training and orientation programs for professionals in allied specialties. AIISH is recognized as a reputed organization for training manpower in the field of speech and hearing and related areas throughout the country. The institute has been recognized as a Centre of Excellence in the area of deafness (WHO), as a centre for advanced research (UGC) and as a Science and Technology Institute (DST). The institute is afflicted to the University of Mysore for the award of degrees. The academic programs of the institute have the recognition of the rehabilitation Council of India. The functioning of the institute is under the direction of the Executive Council with Hon'ble Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare as the Chairman and the Hon'ble Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Karnataka as Vice- Chairman, The other statutory bodies of the Institute are the Finance Committee and the academic committee, ‘This ‘Code of Clinical Conduct’ sccks to address a vital issue by proclaiming certain set of rules and regulations for the Student Clinician.
