Report on: Lifting Spreader Beam for Footing Relocation

1. Introduction:
A 3D segmented model has been performed by using STAAD-PRO V8i (SS-6). The member
is included in the analysis model. The member is analyzed for most critical load condition.

6. Demand Capacity Ratio

The Demand–Capacity Ratio (DCR) which is defined as the ratio of the demand/capacity,
which is QUD/QCE (resulting actions/expected strength) as a benchmark to determine the
failure of major structural members by the linear static analysis procedure. Allowable DCR
ratio is 1.0.

7. Lifting Lug Adequecy Check

Lifting Lug Calculation Details for 75kN load
The total load of the letter is 75kN. Total hooking point of lifting lug is 1. So the hooking
point will carry total load i.e. 75kN by one lifting lug. So first we will calculate the capacity of
lifting lug & then we will calculate the welding strength on main member's plate which is
connected to lifting lug.
All the equations & calculation is based on ASME BTH-1-2017 Standard.

Yield Strength of Steel Plate (Grade A36),

Ultimate Strength of Steel Plate(Grade A36),
Service load come from the letter,
Thickness of Structural member's plate,
Thickness of Lifting Lug,
Dia. of hole in lifting lug plate,
Dia. of pin in lifting lug plate,
Width of Lifting Lug
Height of lifting lug
Nominal Design Factor (As per ASME BTH-1-2017, Clause 3-1.3.1)
Actual width of a pin-connected plate between the edge of the hole and the edge of the
plate on a line perpendicular to the line of action of the applied load,

Maximum angle of load in plane,

Max. Horizontal components of service load
Max. Vertical components of service load
Tensile strength of welding rod (E70xx),
Thickness of the weld of lifting lug, (Fillet weld)

1) DESIGN CHECK FOR LIFTING LUG:

A) Tensile Strength
Nominal Tensile strength through the pinhole of Lifting Lug,

(ASME BTH-1-2017, Eqn. 3-45)

Where,
beff = effective width to each side of the pinhole

(ASME BTH-1-2017, Eqn. 3-46)

The effective width shall be taken as the smaller of the values calculated as follows:

a) , which should be less than or equal to (ASME BTH-1-

2017, Eqn. 3-47)

b) , which should be less than or equal to

(ASME BTH-1-2017, Eqn. 3-48)

So

Nominal Tensile strength through the pinhole of Lifting Lug,

B) Fracture Strength

The Nominal single plane fracture strength beyond the pinhole is

(ASME BTH-1-2017, Eqn. 3-49)

where, R = distance from the center of the hole to the edge of the plate in the direction of
the applied load
