Chapter I
Introduction
Online Laundry Shop POS (point of sale) and Inventory Platform focuses on creating an
online system for laundry shops that combines sales transactions and inventory management. It
recognizes the need for modernizing the laundry industry and the growing demand for
convenient services. By going digital, both businesses and customers can benefit. It allows
customers to place orders, schedule pick-ups and deliveries. The POS system processes
transactions and manages sales, while the inventory platform tracks supplies and equipment.
Together, they efficient operations and enhance customer convenience and it helps customers
select the best services from various laundry stores and find the closest one to visit.
Studies on laundry shops mainly focus on managing operations in one location and
offering convenient services. However, this approach struggles to meet customer demand for
various items that may need to be serviced at different shops. To address this issue, there is a
need to develop a laundry business model so that customers can choose where their items go
with just one order. This shift simplifies the process of handling multiple orders using the
marketplace approach (Setiabudi et al., 2024). In addition. This study suggests using websites to
solve the problems faced by laundry services and their customers. The proposed website also
helps laundry owners advertise their businesses and inform people about any promotions or
discounts that they have. In the future, people could use these web apps to discover the best
laundromats in their area (Singh & Dhaiya, 2022).
In the rapidly evolving landscape of digital business solutions, the laundry service
industry, particularly online laundry shops, faces significant challenges in efficiently managing
sales and inventory. Traditional methods of manual record-keeping and inventory tracking are
prone to errors, inefficiencies, and delays, which lead to poor operational performance and
customer dissatisfaction. The absence of an integrated Point of Sales (POS) and Inventory
Management Platform exacerbates these issues, resulting in inaccurate sales data, inventory
differences, and suboptimal customer service. Customers looking of time-consuming to visit
physical laundry stores for their laundry needs. Traditional laundry services often lack efficient
systems for managing orders, and tracking inventory, leading to delays, errors, and reduced
customer satisfaction. Moreover, customers struggle to compare services and find the best and
nearest laundry service provider. This research aims to address these issues by exploring the
implementation of an online laundry shop POS and platform, which can streamline operations,
enhance customer convenience, and improve overall service quality.
The purpose of this project is to develop a comprehensive online platform that combines point of
sales (POS) and inventory management functionalities, specifically for laundry shops. This
platform will facilitate the automation of sales transactions, real-time inventory tracking, and
customer relationship management (CRM). The platform will be accessible online, ensuring that
business owners and employees can manage operations conveniently and efficiently anywhere.
By influencing this technology, laundry businesses can achieve higher operational accuracy,
reduce manual workload, and provide better service to their customers, and customers won't need
to spend time and effort looking for a laundry store. They can find various services on the system, find
which ones are closer, and choose the best services.
1.3 Objectives
1.3.1 General Objectives
The general objective of our project is to allow customers to find the nearest and best
services for them, and the admin can avoid manual inventory creation by simply viewing system-
generated results.
1. Develop an automated POS system that ensures accurate and efficient processing of sales
transactions, including digital receipts and sales analytics.
2. Implement a real-time inventory management system to monitor stock levels, manage supply
chains, and reduce instances of overstocking or stockouts.
3. Integrate customer relationship management (CRM) features to manage customer data, track
order histories, and personalize customer interactions.
4.Create a user-friendly interface for both staff and customers to ensure ease of use and
accessibility across various devices.
CHAPTER II
According to Tan Yi Qing and Mohd Nizam Omar (2022), with advancements in science and
technology, smartphones now enable humans to control nearly everything. While many mobile apps
improve our daily lives, smart laundry systems haven't received the same attention. Many laundries still
rely on manual management, requiring constant oversight by staff. Customers often face issues like
wasting time and limited payment options. To address these challenges, this study aims to develop a
mobile app called the One Source Smart Laundry System. This app will serve as a platform for customers
and laundry owners to interact, improving efficiency in laundry management. The Rapid Application
Development (RAD) Methodology is used to quickly create and test prototypes based on gathered
requirements. The final prototype was evaluated positively by 32 users, who found it satisfactory in terms
of design, content, functionality, and usability. This research enhances our understanding of the system
requirements and user interface needed for effective laundry management through a mobile application.
Customers at laundry service shops face a variety of options, but often encounter inconsistent
service quality due to poor management. This leaves them dissatisfied and searching for better
alternatives, which takes up time and effort. Studies on laundry businesses typically focus on making
operations easier for a single shop, with features like convenient services and payment methods
(Setiabudi et al., 2024).
According to Mohd Suhaimi Md Yasin (2023) “Delivery Laundry System: The Development of
Laundry Web-Based System for UTHM Student to Make Laundry More Convenient” stated that the goal
of their project is to create a user-friendly and effective laundry delivery system.
According to D. Moon E. amasawa and M. Hirao (2020) who will conducted a research about
Consumer Motivation and Environmental Impact of Laundry Machine-Sharing: Analysis of Surveys in
Tokyo and Bangkok that the laundry is a fundamental household chore. Since the invention of laundry
machines (LMs), such as washers and tumble-dryers, they have been labor-saving appliances. While LMs
are convenient, laundry behavior related to LMs eventually increases the burden on the environment.
Therefore, it is crucial that we understand how to use LMs sustainably.
In the year 2023, L. O. Narsico and P.G. Narsico conduct a research here in the Philippines in
Cebu City focusing on laundry shop that only a few customers used it, but gradually more locals started
coming in. It was interesting to see why customers changed their preferences. The findings could help
similar businesses. The study used qualitative methods, specifically a case study. It involved observing
and talking informally with two laundry attendants with over two years of experience, one maintenance
worker from the start, and more than five hundred regular customers. They discussed the shop's early
challenges, what regular customers are like, why they switched to new services, and the difficulties in
providing these services.
Tanaman et al. (2023) said that software project is a web-based inventory management system for
a small business enterprise established in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur, Philippines. It primarily
supports the business owner of the said business enterprise to perform regular inventory management
online through a web platform. This mechanism did not only improve the overall business process but
also enabled the business owner to manage inventories with efficiency and convenience.
2.3 RELATED SYSTEM
2.3.1 INDEX PAGE
Index page: shows users what the system is for. It gives a short description of the company, contact
details, and other important information. At the top right of the page, on the navigation bar, there are two
buttons. One button, the register button, is also in the center for easy access. These buttons are links to
two pages: the sign-up page for new users and the log-in page for existing users.
Customer registration page is crucial for the system as it registers customers into the database,
allowing them to become users. It requires six details: First Name, Last Name, Address, Email, Phone
Number, and Password. Upon successful registration, either the phone number or email becomes the
user's unique username. The system ensures no two users share the same phone number or email.
Validation checks during registration confirm the uniqueness of these details. After registration, users can
log in using their email or phone number along with their chosen password.
User Dashboard When a user logs into the system, they access their user dashboard. This dashboard
allows them to place orders, update their profile, track their clothing items' progress, schedule pick-up or
delivery, view order history, and contact the laundry service. It's designed to be user-friendly, making
transactions between users and the laundry service straightforward.
In Figure 5, the side menu offers options for users to manage their accounts. The dashboard also includes
an updated price list. The booking section is where users make their transactions. They choose the type of
clothing item, specify the quantity, and select the service they need (washing, drying, ironing). Users can
add or remove items by clicking the buttons provided on the page.
