Learning Competencies
CS: The learner demonstrates understanding of how would literature and other
text types serve as sources of wisdom in expressing and resolving conflicts among
individuals, groups and nature, also how to use evaluative reading, listening and
viewing strategies, special speeches for occasion, pronouns and structures of
modification.
PS: The learner skillfully delivers a speech for a special occasion through
utilizing effective verbal and non-verbal strategies and ICT resources.
I. Objectives
At the end of the 60-minute period, the learners should be able to:
1. analyze the elements of the story.
2. relate the events of the story to one’s personal life.
3. write a critique of the story “A Grain as Big as a Hen’s Egg”
III. Procedure
A. ACTIVITIES
Drill
The teacher will let the learners play a word search game. In this game,
the learners will locate the given words in the grid either vertically, horizontally
or diagonally. The teacher will provide a list of words for the learners to look
for.

Motivation
The teacher will let the learners read the given situations and find the
meaning of the underlined word by matching Column A to Column B. The
learners will write the letter of the correct answer before the number in the
provided answer sheet.

B. ANALYSIS
The learners will read the story “A Grain as Big as a Hen’s Egg” and the teacher
will discuss the elements of the story. The learners will answer the following
questions:
1. What kind of object did the children find in the ravine?
2. How did everyone realize that the object was a grain of corn?
3. What did the wise men suggest the King should do when they failed to find
the answer?
4. Why was the grandfather healthier than both his son and his grandson?
5. What is the purpose of the author in the story?
6. What did you learn from the story?
7. Why do you think being too dependent on others is wrong?
7. If you would be given a chance to depend on others, who would you depend
on? Why?
C. ABSTRACTION
The teacher will review the lesson.
Guide Questions:
1. What was the story all about?
2. What does the crutch represent?
3. What is the moral of the story?
D. APPLICATION
The teacher will divide the learners into 5 groups. Each group will be
given a task. The teacher will provide the materials for their output. Note that
the learners will be given 5 minutes to work on their task and perform it in front
of their classmates.
