clergyman, educator, and
physician James Naismith.
Nature and

BASKETBALL
Basketball is a team sport, in
which the goal is to shoot the
ball through the basket that is
positioned on both ends of the
court. Typically, two teams of
five players on rectangular court.
Basketball is one of the world’s
most popular and extensively
watched sports.

Shooting

It is the act of throwing the ball with an intention of getting it into the ring or basket to earn
points. This is an offensive skill that every basketball players should master to win the game.
Things to remember when shooting:
Remember the BEEF (Balance, Eyes, Elbow, Follow- Through) when shooting the ball.
Relax and focus on the basket.
Be in proper balance when shooting the ball
Follow through and make sure that you have an arc on every shot you make.

Dribbling
Dribbling in playing basketball is a skill that a player should master. It allows the player to move
around the basketball court while he or she is in the possession of the ball. It is one way of allowing
the player to advance with the ball and make a score instead of passing it to a teammate to shoot
in the basket. Passing
Things to remember when dribbling:
Employ the wrist and the forearm to push to the court while covering the court distance.
Dribble on one side of the body, not in front.
When dribbling with the one hand, use the other hand to drive your guard away from the ball.
Keep in mind that you should not include the whole hand in dribbling so as not to lose the control of
the ball.

It is the skills that maximize the player’s involvement to set up
a play to earn successful throw on the basket and earn score for
the team.
Three ways in passing the ball :
Chest pass is a pass originates from the chest to the receiver’s
chest
Bounce pass is thrown to the floor so that it bounces to the
receiver.
Overhead pass is aRebonding
pass that originates from the forehead of
the player.

Rebounding

Rebounding is one of the most important aspects of the


basketball game which enables the player to jump with
power to get the ball as it bounces to the rim after a failed
shoot before it touches the floor. Whenever the player grabs
a rebound, he or she gains a chance to shoot again the ball
while the other team loses it.

Running

Running is a basic skill that a player should possess in playing


basketball. It provides the player a greater chance to shoot the
ball.
FUTSAL
Futsal started in 1930 in
Montevideo, Uruguay by
Juan Carlos Ceriani who
invented a five-a-side form
of soccer for youth
competition in YMCAs.
Nature and
background of
FUTSAL
The game is played on a space with size like that of the
basketball court. This can be played indoors or outdoors.
The futsal is the international name used for the game. It is
derived from the Portuguese word FUTbol of FUTebol which
means soccer, and the French or Spanish word SALon or SALa
which means indoor.
Futsal is played between two teams of five players each, one
of whom is the goalkeeper. Unlimited substitutions are permitted.
Futsal in the Philippines
Futsal, as a variant of Football, was introduced in the
Philippines by the Philippine Football Federation (PFF). In 2001,
the Philippine Futsal Team competed I the 2001 ASEAN Football
Federation Futsal Championship. Later, it also participated in
various international tournaments like AFC Futsal Championships
and SEA games.
