Method Statement for Strainer Inspection

1. Purpose:
 To ensure safety of equipment and to verify its accuracy.
 To implement best standard practice to check the status of the y-strainers.

2. Scope:
 Method statement for all primary side heat exchanger y-strainer in ETS operated
and maintained by DALKIA.

3. Responsibilities
Plant Manager: Will co-ordinate with Operator and Instrument technician to make
sure the planned activity will not lead to any kind of service interruption.

Control Engineer: Will make sure that the permit receiver is capable enough to
handle the job with in pre assigned time span.

HSE Officer: Will initiate an inspection and audit to the work place that requires
method of statement.

Permit Issuers: Will make sure that before they issue any permit, that a valid MS
documents is available. Also make sure that there are no service interruption
possibilities due to the activity.

Technician: Must understand the content of method statement. This is to ensure the
work flow will comply each amended step.
4. Sequence of Work:
1. Ensure tools, test equipment, spares and consumables are available
2. Obtain work permit from Operation dept.
3. Use appropriate PPE and follow carefully safety rules
4. Put the HEX primary side PICV’s in remote-manual mode and close. Isolate HEX inlet and
outlet butterfly valves and start draining.
5. Once y-strainer bucket is completely drained, open the cover and pull out the strainer.
Inspect and clean.
6. Return back the strainer to y-strainer bucket and put the cover.
7. Slowly open the HEX inlet butterfly valve and check for leaks. If no leak, fully open the
inlet and outlet butterfly valve.

8. Put back the PICV’s in remote-auto.

9. Hand over equipment to operations and do housekeeping
10. Both operations and maintenance to sign off work order.
11. Record the time spent on this Work Order
