1. How do you define "language competence"? What does it mean to be competent in both English
and Filipino?

Language competence basically means you are able to communicate with one another using
language. And language competence helps us to deliver an information to a particular person
whom we are talking with. Being Competent in both English and Filipino means you are able to
communicate using English nor Filipino. You are Able to deliver your speech and to understand
the language itself as well.

2. Do you really believe that it is possible for one nation, specifically the Philippines, to have its
people be competent in two languages? Justify your answer.

I believe that it is possible 41 nation to have its people to be competent in 2 languages. Various
communities in the Philippines speaks two languages including the dialects. And Philippines
practices English as a medium of instruction which will be developed sooner. I believe that
someday, the people of the Philippines will become fluent.

3. Do you agree that the Filipino language is a "linguistic symbol of national unity and identity"? Why
do you say so?

Yes, I believe that Filipino language is our cultural identity. But using it, it identifies which
nation are we came from. Aside from that, we are using Filipino as a medium for communication
wherein we can communicate with one another although we came from a different community
and that is unity. Being together even though we have differences and it makes us united.

4. Section d states that "regional languages shall be used as auxiliary media of instruction" What does
"auxiliary media of instruction" mean? Why do you think regional languages were assigned this status
or role? How will the use of regional languages benefit young learners?

It actually benefits the learners. Auxiliary media of instruction means using a particular language
to teach the learners. One of the example of that is mother tongue. It helps the learners to quickly
understand the teacher and it wouldn't be hard for them to fully understand the language they are
learning to.
