5. PROCEDURE:
We understand that the laboratory is fully responsible for safe handling of customers’ test
and calibration items when they are under its control.
This document details the procedure for transportation, receipt, handling, protection, storage,
retention, and return of the test items, including all provisions necessary to protect the
integrity of the test items and to protect the interests of the laboratory and the customer.
Precautions are taken to avoid deterioration, contamination, loss or damage to the item
during handling, transporting, storing/waiting, and preparation for testing.
Handling instructions provided with the item are followed.
When items need to be stored or conditioned under specified environmental conditions, these
conditions are maintained, monitored and recorded.
Handling of DUTs from the customer
Test items are received at the test storage area within the testing department directly after
checking in with Gate Security.
Particulars of the DUTs (Eg: size, weight, model, name, serial number, colour) received at
the test storage area within the laboratory are entered in the laboratory register maintained by
the technical manager. The DUT’s are arranged in the test storage area in the first in first out
manner. After entering the particulars in the laboratory register, a job card is prepared and
attached to the test. A unique identification number validated through software (google
sheets) is assigned to each test item for unambiguous identification. The association between
the DUT and the unambiguous identification number is noted in the laboratory register.
Additionally, the unique identification numbers are mentioned directly as laboratory tags on
all DUTs. The sample number is added to the test report. The job card and the laboratory
tag remains with the item till the test service is completed and the item is returned to the
customer.
This system of unique identification, numbering and tagging has been designed and operated
in such a way that DUTs cannot be confused physically or when referred to in records or
other documents.
Now the item is moved to a safe and secure storage area, waiting for the next process.
