Questin 3

(a) Based on Table 1:

(i) State a, b, c, d, and e
a : 23 b: 10 c: 6 d:7 e:20 [5 marks]

(ii) Write the standard representation of atoms Q and T.

[2 marks]
(iii) Choose an isotope of atom R and write its standard representation.

[1 mark]
(iv) Draw the electron arrangement for both isotopes stated in 4 (a)(iii).

[4 marks]

(b) Write the physical state of naphthalene at AB, BC, and CD. Then, explain the
changes that occured in every phase.

AB : Gas
The temperature decreases. The gas cools down and the particle lose kinetic
energy.

BC : Gas and liquid

The temperature is constant. Gas condensates into liquid. The particles move
closes to one another. The energy released to the surroundings is balanced by
the heat energy released when the particles pull on another.

CD : Liquid
The temperature decreases. Naphthalene exists in the liquid form as the particles
lose kinetic energy and move slower.
[8 marks]
