Introduction Leading to the aim of the report
My winter internship with the Lighthouse Communities Foundation (LCF) was a fantastic
and valuable experience for me. I worked devotedly at Fuel, giving my time and energy.
The internship started on 27th November & ended on 22th December 2023.
During the internship project, our primary objective was to establish meaningful connections
with the youth, focusing on identifying logistics and sustainable green job opportunities. The
LCF has been at the forefront of various training programs and initiatives, particularly in the
realm of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

Our work involved a variety of activities, including talking to young people and answering
their questions, collecting data that was needed to finish datasets, and actively looking for
chances for them to work in green jobs and logistics. We made a concerted effort to establish
contact with the target population, filling in any information gaps through phone calls and
Excel sheet updates to guarantee complete and correct data, including filling in the address
filling page with Lat Long.

9
Apart from our main assignment, we also explored the complexities of many departments
within the company. We particularly looked at the operations of LCF's Udaan unit, which is
devoted to youth employment. This investigation yielded insightful information on how
Udaan works with HR, acting as a critical conduit between youth and businesses .

LCF goes above and beyond placing young people in jobs in order to empower them. The
company provides a wide range of courses, such as BPO, data executive training, beauty
parlour courses, office executive programmes, English communication, and many more.
These programmes are prime examples of LCF's all-encompassing approach to skill
development, guaranteeing that the young people have a flexible skill set suitable for a range
of career paths.

Our participation in CSR assignments and projects during the internship served to highlight
the organization's commitment to improving society. By actively taking part in these
programmes, we were able to better grasp LCF's diverse community-uplifting efforts while
also making a positive impact on the organization's overall objectives.

Brief overview of the Project

As an individual my job role is I have assigned to work on Youth empowerment which

included Upskilling , Mobilization , Job preparedness , Counselling of youth for Future
Opportunities . Other roles where Data collection and recording of data .

TERMS OF REFERENCE (LIMITATIONS)

1. My Project was to Provide Awareness about the GOYN Program which is associated
with Lighthouse Communities Foundation , So Due to fear of public speaking I was
not able to convey my message to people.

2. During this one month of Internship , I worked on the Data of 1000 people data , so
due to Time constrain and multiple deadlines I was not able to prioritize my work.

11
3. I have also done the Survey in “Sutardara slum “ for Mobilization of people their I
faced language barrier .

4. After completing Field work the Data which was recorded we have to again cross
check the data my connecting them and It was a really difficult task .

METHODOLOGY ADOPTED FOR THE EXECUTION OF ACTIVITY

I adopted the techniques of Primary Data Collection for the survey and in which I had used
various Techniques.

Quantitative and qualitative data for the Survey.

Quantitative data:
 Demographics: Age, gender, educational background, household income, slum/village
location, etc.
 Program participation: Enrollment rates, training completion rates, placement
rates, wages earned, etc.
 Impact on individuals: Changes in livelihood opportunities, skills
gained, employability, etc.

12
 Impact on communities: Changes in community development indicators, social
mobility, perceptions of opportunity, etc.
Qualitative data:
 Interviews and surveys: Opinions, experiences, and expectations of program
participants and community members.
 Observations: Interactions within the Lighthouse centers, community dynamics, etc.
 Case studies: In-depth stories of individuals or families who have been impacted by
the program.
 Monitoring and evaluation reports: Qualitative assessments of program effectiveness
and community change.
The Foundation relies on both quantitative and qualitative data to understand the full picture
of their work. Quantitative data provides measurable evidence of program outcomes, while
qualitative data allows for a deeper understanding of the program's impact on individuals and
communities.
Here are some specific examples of how I collected the Data :
 Identifying community needs: Quantitative data on demographics and employment
can help the Foundation prioritize which communities to focus on.
 Evaluating program effectiveness: Tracking changes in key metrics like enrollment
and placement rates can help the Foundation assess whether its programs are
achieving their goals.
 Understanding participant experiences: Qualitative data from interviews and case
studies can help the Foundation learn about the challenges and successes of program
participants and make improvements to their programs.
 Sharing impact stories: Using both quantitative and qualitative data, the Foundation
can create compelling stories that showcase the positive changes they are making in
communities.

FINDINGS AND INFERENCES

The working pattern in Lighthouse Communities Foundation (LCF) can vary depending on
the specific program and project they are involved in.

Project work: I was placed on various projects aligned with LCF's core mission of
empowering underprivileged youth through skill development, employment opportunities,
and entrepreneurship support. These projects can involve:

 Fieldwork: Conducting surveys, collecting data, and interacting with community

members in LCF's partner slums.
 Research and analysis: Assisting with research on topics related to
poverty, education, and employment in low-income communities.
15
 Content creation: Developing educational materials, writing case studies, and creating
social media content.
 management: Assisting with the organization of workshops, seminars, and other
events for LCF beneficiaries.
 Administrative tasks: Supporting LCF staff with administrative tasks such as data
entry, filing, and communication.

Learning and development: LCF is committed to providing interns with valuable learning
experiences. Interns are encouraged to take initiative, ask questions, and participate actively
in project meetings and discussions. They also have the opportunity to attend training
sessions on relevant topics such as communication, teamwork, and project management.
Mentorship: We were assigned mentors who provide guidance and support throughout their
internship. Mentors help interns set goals, track their progress, and provide feedback on their
work.
Overall, the working pattern at LCF is designed to be challenging and rewarding. Interns gain
valuable skills and experience while making a real difference in the lives of underprivileged
communities.
Here are some additional details about the working pattern of interns in different LCF
programs:
 Lighthouse Skilling Program: I was typically working on projects related to
curriculum, training delivery, and assessment. They may also be involved in outreach
and recruitment activities.
 Lighthouse Placement Program: I worked on projects related to job search
assistance, career counselling, and employer engagement. They may also be involved
in data analysis and reporting.
Lighthouse Entrepreneurship Program: I worked on projects related to business
development, marketing, and financial literacy. They may also be involved in providing
mentorship and support to aspiring entrepreneurs.

16
PROJECT (GOYN PROGRAM)

The Global Opportunity Youth Network (GOYN) is a flagship program of the Lighthouse
Communities Foundation (LCF) that aims to catalyse systems shifts for youth opportunity in
communities worldwide. It does this by creating sustainable training, employment, and
income-earning pathways for young people aged 15-29 who face barriers to economic
opportunity.

GOYN operates on the principle of "Collective Impact", which means that it brings together a
diverse range of stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, businesses, and
educational institutions, to work collaboratively towards a common goal. This approach
allows GOYN to leverage the strengths and resources of each stakeholder to create a more
comprehensive and effective system of support for young people.
Here are some of the key features of the GOYN program:
 Focus on Opportunity Youth: GOYN specifically targets young people who are facing
barriers to economic opportunity, such as those from low-income households, those
who have dropped out of school, or those who have disabilities.

17
 Holistic Approach: GOYN provides a range of services to support young
people, including skills training, job placement assistance, entrepreneurship
training, and financial literacy education.
 Data-Driven Decision Making: GOYN uses data to track its progress and measure its
impact. This allows the program to continuously adapt and improve its services.
 Scalability: GOYN is designed to be scalable, so that it can be replicated in other
communities around the world.
GOYN Pune is the anchor partner for GOYN in India. It has been working with a variety of
stakeholders in Pune to create a more supportive ecosystem for young people. Some of the
initiatives that GOYN Pune has undertaken include:
 Developing a skills training curriculum that is tailored to the needs of local
employers.
 Creating a network of job placement partners.
 Providing entrepreneurship training and support to young people.
 Advocating for policies that support youth opportunity.
The GOYN program has had a significant impact on the lives of young people in Pune. A
recent study found that GOYN participants were more likely to be employed than non-
participants, and they also had higher earnings. Additionally, GOYN participants reported
feeling more confident about their future prospects.
Overall, the GOYN program is a promising model for creating sustainable systems of support
for young people facing barriers to economic opportunity. Its focus on collaboration, data-
driven decision making, and scalability makes it a valuable tool for communities around the
world that are working to improve the lives of their young people

18
CSR ACTIVITY AS PER SPECIALIZATION

The Learnings in Lighthouse Communities Foundation (LCF) was a rewarding experience.

Here are some of the key learnings that I gain from working at LCF:
1. Understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by underserved
communities: LCF works with some of the most marginalized and vulnerable communities
in India. Through their work, interns will gain firsthand experience of the challenges these
communities face, such as poverty, lack of access to education and healthcare, and
discrimination. They will also learn about the potential for positive change and the impact
that NGOs can have in these communities.

2. Development of practical skills: I got the opportunity to develop a variety of practical

skills, such as project management, research, fundraising, communication and also involved
in data collection, monitoring and evaluation, and community engagement. These skills will
be valuable for my future career, whether in the nonprofit sector, the private sector, or the
government.

19
3. Cross-cultural understanding: LCF is a multicultural organization, and I got the
opportunity to work with people from different backgrounds and cultures. This help me to
develop the cross-cultural understanding and communication skills.

4. Personal and professional growth: Working at LCF was a challenge but rewarding
experience. I got the opportunity to step outside the comfort zone and learned new things, and
make a real difference in the lives of others. This lead to significant personal and professional
growth.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Lighthouse communities Foundation has a great vision and work-mechanism to educate and
skillify the under privileged society.

As an intern I would recommend that as they have a great vision and mission to bring a
change, they need to use digital platforms to connect with more people so that they can create
a impact and awareness a larger platform.

I would also recommend that other that CSR of companies the organization should
collaborate with Educational Institutions, Corporate Offices to take more initiatives and to
spread education and awareness and motivation towards educated society formation, this will
eliminate poor skilling, poverty, illiteracy and unemployability in the society. Further in
result this will promote a healthy living and will create a developing environment and a better
and a advance place for future generation.
