Technical Scope
On the basis of raw water analysis report and your requirement, we have
Selected the following treatment scheme:

Treatment Section:

b. Softener Filter

a. Sand Filter

Multigrade filter is a depth filter that makes use of coarse and fine media mixed together in a fixed
proportion. This arrangement produces a filter bed with adequate pore dimensions for retaining
both large and small suspended particles. This filter performs at a substantially higher specific flow
rate than conventional filters. Specific flow rates have been successfully obtained for treating waters
to produce iron free, suspended solids and turbidity free water.

b. Base Exchange Softener

The process in the softener is carried out by the ion exchange process. The description and chemical
reaction is as given below:
Resins are porous materials, which contain an inert base attached to which, are free ions. These
ions are Free to move about within the resin structure and can be replaced by other ions of the same
type from a surrounding solution. The resin for the softener is the sodium based resin which
exchanges the hardness. The typical reactions are given below in the process.

During the service the ion exchange resin works with the following reaction.

Regeneration

When the supply of the exchangeable ions within the resin is exhausted, the treated water from the
resin deteriorates and the resin requires regeneration-reconversion of the resin into the operating
form.

For Cation exchange softener application resins brine is used for regeneration.

 Equipment Details
This is pressure vessel. Externally, the unit is provided with frontal piping with necessary valve,
pressure gauge and sample valve at the inlet and outlet brine measuring tank and ejector for the
injection of the brine solution in the tank.
Internally the unit is provided with inlet distributor and bottom collection system for collecting water
during service and distribute during backwash operation.

The unit is regenerated when the unit has delivered its specified output or when the treated water
quality is not satisfactory whichever is earlier.

Backwash:
During backwash water is passed upwards from the bottom and taken out from the top and drained
to the drain sump.

Injection:
During this stage the brine will be injected in the system with the help of ejector provided on at the
outlet of brine measuring tank.

Rinse:
After the injection the unit is rinsed for the specified time. This step is carried out to utilize the brine
injected in the softener.
