MODULE: 2

SOLUTIONS
General Chemistry 2 Module 2

Activity:
Create a summary of the lesson: Solutions. Refer to the powerpoint lesson provided.
Indicators to be checked:
Key terminologies, Key Points, Formulas, and one sample problem each for molarity, dilution,
percent by mass, and solution stoichiometry. (handwritten)
Write in a yellow sheet of paper.

Problem Solving:

Answer the following problems. Show your solution and box the final answer.

% by mass:
Molarity:
Dilution: mass of solute
mol (solute ) 1. % by mass= × 100
M= M1V1 = M2V2 mass of solution
L(solvent )
mass of solution= mass of solute + mass of solvent

What is the molarity of a solution that has 2 moles of sodium chloride in 0.5 liters of solution?
2. How many grams of CO2 are needed to make 3.0 L of 1.5 M solution? Tip: use periodic table to
get the molar mass of CO2.
3. How many liters of 3 M HCl are required to make 1.5 L of 1.0 M HCl?
4. 250.0 mL of a 0.500 M HCl solution needs to be made from concentrated HCl. What volume of
the concentrated solution is needed if its molarity is 12.0 M?
5. If 20.0 grams of NaCl is dissolved in 180.0 grams of water, what is the concentration using
Percent by Mass?
6. How many grams of sodium bromide are in 100.0g of solution that is 25.0% sodium bromide by
mass?
7. How many LITERS of 10 M HCl are required to react with 10.0 GRAMS of zinc?(use periodic table
to get the molar mass of zinc)
Zn + 2 HCl  ZnCl2 + H2
8. How many grams of NaOH would be required to react with 2.0 L of 4 M sulfuric acid? (use
periodic table to get the molar mass of NaOH)
H2SO4 + NaOH  Na2SO4 + H2O
