Verbal Series (Class-9)

Exercise-01 Solutions
1. Option (3)
The sequence in the series is double the square of numbers in their natural order.
1 sqr × =2
2 sqr × 2=8
3 sqr × 2=18
4 sqr × 2=32
5 sqr × 2=50
2. Option (4)
Explanation:
The series is
1 and square of 2=14
3 and square of 4=316
5 and square of 6=536
7 and square of 8=764
Following the same pattern, the next number will be
9 and square of 10=9100
Hence, 9100 is the correct answer.
3. Option (1)
Difference is : 3, 4, 7, 11, 18, 29, 47, ....
Clearly, from the difference there is fibonacci series is form.
So, missing term 51 + 29 = 80
Thus missing number is 80 and option 1 is correct answer.
4. Option (2)
Number are written in following sequence:
12 = 1
2
32 = 9
4
52 = 25
6
Hence following series next number will be square of 7
72 = 49
Hence 49 is the correct answer.
5. Option (3)
8,24,16,?,7,14,6,18,12,5,5,10
If we see the given pattern, we can find out that every alternative digit is related, For instance,
For all odd consecutive series;
8 × 2 = 16, ? × 2 = 14, 6 × 2 = 12, 5 × 2 = 10
or if we simplify the above;
we get ? = 7 and 7 × 2 + 2 = 14
Thus 7 or Option 3 is correct answer.

Verbal Series (Class-9)

6. Option (3)
12 + 13 = 2
22 + 23 = 12
32 + 33 = 36
42 + 43 = 80
52 + 53 = 150
62 + 63 = 252
7. Option (3)
26 is correct answer
Pattern is : (1 × 1) + 1, (2 × 2) + 1, (3 × 3) + 1, (4 × 4) + 1, (5 × 5) + 1, (6 × 6) + 1
8. Option (1)
The pattern is : × 5, × 4, × 3, × 2 ....
Therefore, the answer is option (1) i.e. 240.
9. Option (3)
2 = 12 + 1
3 = 22 - 1
10 = 32 + 1
Now 102 – 1 = 99
9802 = 992 + 1
10. Option (3)
Pattern is : × 2 – 1, × 2 – 2, × 2 – 3, × 2 – 4, ....
So, missing term 53 × 2 – 4 = 102.
11. Option (4)
First letter will move two step backward, second letter will move four step backward and third letter will move three, four,
five,six and so on letters forward to form the next term.
Hence following the series next term will be DLS
12. Option (1)
First letter will move two step forward, third letter will move three step forward and in number pattern is
× 2 + 1, × 2 + 2, × 2 + 3, × 2 + 4.
Therefore, the missing term is J58Q.
13. Option (2)
First letter will move four step forward, second letter will move two step backward and third letter will move three steps
forward to form the next term.
Hence following the series next term will be CLT.
14. Option (3)
In the following series first letter is moved three steps forward, third letter is moved three steps backward in alphabetic
series to form the next term. And number series are like-
3 ×2 + 1 = 7
7 × 2 + 1 = 15
15 × 2 + 1 = 31
Hence following the series the next term will = N63A.

Verbal Series (Class-9)

15. Option (1)

In the following series first and third number series three is added to form the next term. Where as second letter is moved
three steps backward.
Hence following the series next term will be 17L21
16. Option (3)
The series was in the following form:
9 + 2 = 11
11 + 4 = 15
15 + 8 = 23
23 + 16 = 39
39 + 32 = 71
71 + 64 = 135
Hence 70 is wrong term and 71 should be in its place.
17. Option (1)
Patter is : × 3, × 4, × 2, × 3, × 4, × 2 .....
Therefore, the wrong term is 3468.
18. Option (4)
Here the logic is +1, +4, +9, +16, +25, ... i.e. 12, 22, 32, 42, 52, 62
91 is wrong term it should be 56 + 36 = 92
19. Option (3)
2 + 3 = 5; 5 + 5 = 10; 10 + 7 = 17; 17 + 9 = 26; 26 + 11 = 37
37 + 13 = 50, 50 + 15 = 65
Here 64 is wrong term.
20. Option (4)
First letter is moved two steps forward, second letter is moved one step backward and third letter is moved two steps
backward in alphabetic series to make the next term.
Following the series the third term of the series should be HIU.
Hence the third term HIT is the wrong term of the series.
21. Option (2)
First letter is moved two step forward,second letter is moved three steps backward and third letter is moved two steps
forward to form the next term.
Hence according to the series JNM is the wrong term and the correct term is JMM.
22. Option (3)
P = 5 × 1 +1 = 6
Q = 6 × 2 + 2 = 14
R = 14 × 3 + 3 = 45
S = 45 × 4 + 4 =184
T = 184 × 5 + 5 = 925

5 × 2 + 8 =18
18 × 2 + 12 = 48
48 × 2 + 16 = 112
112 × 2 + 20 = 244
Therefore, numbers in the letter series will be
7
P = 7 × 2 + 8 = 22
Q = 22 × 2 + 12 = 56
R = 56 × 2 + 16 = 128
S = 128 × 2 + 20 = 276
