Accomplishment Report on School’s Reading Intervention/

Remediation
S.Y. 2023-2024
(Grade 6-Mars)
Rationale

The Department of Education (DepEd) supports Every Child a Reader Program, which
aims to make every Filipino child a reader and a writer at his/her grade level. Thus, the
DepEd continue to administer the Oral Reading assessment to learners in public elementary
schools nationwide.

One of its objectives is to utilize the data gathered from the assessment to serve as one
of the bases in planning, designing/redesigning the reading instruction of the teachers and the
school’s reading programs or activities to improve the overall school’s reading performance.

Dinalungan Central School upholds this reading program. Based on the PHIL - IRI findings
which was conducted on September 2023 to all Grade 5 and 6 pupils, it showed that some of
the pupils had poor reading comprehension skills and they need immediate remediation.

By conducting remedial instructions, reading exercises, and distributing reading

materials every Monday to Thursday from 4:10 to 4:40 p.m. to those identified students, they
will increased their reading levels from frustration to instructional and independent levels.

Activities
The advisers and the subject teachers served as the reading coordinators who conducted
remedial reading to those identified students who had reading difficulties based on the Phil –
IRI test.

The reading teacher distributed reading materials to the pupils. This was done for four days
from the time that the pupils identified as remedial reader.. After reading the given piece
pupils will answer the given questions to be recorded by the teacher and serve as the
monitoring tool for their improvements.

In grade 6, students were given reading remediation following the schedule in the action plan.
In addition, the students brought the reading materials to be read at home with their parents.
In the reading exercises, the comprehension questions were answered by the students through
the guide questions given by the teacher.

Result and Assessment

There were 42 pupils who have been part of the Assessment in Grade 6 Mars and their
Level of Comprehension was divided into four groups; Independent, Instructional,

Frustration, and Non-Reader. From the pretest result it was identified that there were 6
Independent readers 22 Instructional, 14 Frustration readers, and 0 Non-Readers.

The post test was then conducted on April 2024 after the remedial reading activities
and the result gradually improved. The post test result shows that there were 30 Independent
readers 11 Instructional ,1 Frustration reader and 0 Non-readers.

Considering the data presented, there is an increase percentage in Independent and

Instructional readers and decrease percentage in Frustration level.
