What is the Philippine
Cancer Control Program?

The Philippine Cancer Control Program, begun in


1988, is an integrated approach utilizing primary,
secondary and tertiary prevention in different
regions of the country at both hospital and
community levels. Six lead cancers (lung, breast,
liver, cervix, oral cavity, colon and rectum)

The Cancer Control Program (CCP) of the
Department of Health (DOH) typically refers to a
public health initiative aimed at preventing,
detecting, and managing cancer. These
programs often include activities such as
promoting awareness, early detection through
screenings, implementing preventive measures,
and providing support for cancer patients. The
specific components may vary, but the overall
goal is to reduce the incidence and impact of
cancer within a population.

Cancer Prevention and Control

This includes: Developing, testing and


implementing innovative strategies to modify
behaviors that drive cancer risk and cancer
incidence disparities. Identifying biomarker-
driven and other testing strategies that detect
cancer earlier and/or reduce cancer risk.

What is the National Cancer Control Act in
the Philippines

As written under NICCA, a cancer


assistance fund is allocated to provide
financial help to cancer patients for
his/her screening, diagnosis, specialized
treatment and/or rehabilitation, palliative
and supportive care to survivorship, and
cancer medicines.

How can a cancer avail the DOH's
cancer assistance program?

Department of Health

The patient can apply for assistance by presenting to a


DOH Hospital – Medical Assistance Program and meet the
applicable qualifications and requirements: Their patient
profile. Diagnosis history. Plan of treatment/doctor's
report.

How to apply for cancer
assistance fund?

Prepare the following requirements:


1. Treatment Protocol.
2. Prescription.
3. Clinical Abstract.
4. Biopsy Result.
5. Letter of request addressed to: Jose Ferdinand Rojas II.

What benefits are cancer patients
entitled to in the Philippines?

It is within the provisions of this law that a cancer patient is


entitled to have free financial assistance for screening tests,
diagnosis, specialized treatments, palliative care, and
medicines. Through this law, cancer patients, survivors, and
their families can begin to hope for longer lives.
