SECTION 12 92 00 - INTERIOR PLANTERS AND ARTIFICIAL PLANTS

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

A. Section Includes:

1. Freestanding interior planters.

2. Site-installed, self-contained subirrigation units.
3. Planter liners.
4. Manufactured interior plants.

B. Scope Includes:

1. Compliance with the General Conditions of Contract.

2. Compliance with all current and applicable statutory codes and requirements.
3. Completion of the design, fabrication, supply and installation of all items
specified herein, shown on the Contract Drawings, and as required to provide a
complete installation.
4. Completion of the design and coordination of all interfaces with adjoining
systems and trades prior to the commencement of fabrication.

C. The Owner requires the Contractor to implement practices and procedures to meet the
project's environmental performance goals, which include compliance with the
requirements determined by the Sustainability Consultant’s design documentation
(LEED & WELL), and applicable local authority Green Building Regulation. Specific
project goals that may impact this area of work include, but are not limited to: reduced
impact of construction activities, construction waste recycling, reduction of water and
energy usage, adequate protection for storing materials, use of recycled-content
materials, use of locally manufactured materials, use of low-emitting materials, use of
materials having EPD's, and avoid use of restricted materials. The Contractor shall
ensure that the requirements related to these goals, as defined in individual
specification sections are implemented to the fullest extent. Substitutions, or other
changes to the work proposed by the Contractor or their Subcontractors, shall not be
allowed if such changes compromise the aforementioned environmental goals and
Green Building Regulation compliance.

1. Contractor shall, at all times undertake to ensure that all targeted goals are
achieved. As and when any risks arise that could compromise the achievement of
one or more of the targeted goals, the Contractor shall bring these to the attention
of the Employer's Representative immediately.

1.3 PREINSTALLATION MEETINGS

A. Preinstallation Conference: Conduct conference at Project site.

1.4 ACTION SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data: For each type of product.

B. Shop Drawings:

1. Metal Planter Liners: Show layouts, profiles, shapes, seams, and dimensions.
2. Self-Contained Subirrigation Units: Show fabrication and installation details of
units and accessories.

C. Samples: For each freestanding planter finish, color, and texture specified, not less than
76 by 76 mm in size.

D. Samples for Initial Selection: For each type of freestanding planter and each type of
exposed finish.

E. Samples for Verification: For each freestanding planter finish, color, and texture, not
less than 76 by 76 mm in size.

F. Product Schedule: Use same designations indicated on Drawings.

1. For freestanding planters, include the following:

a. Finish, color, and texture.

b. Dimensions.
c. Manufacturer's name.
d. Manufacturer's product designation.

1.5 CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS

A. Maintenance Data: For the following to include in maintenance manuals:

1. Freestanding planters.
2. Site-installed, self-contained subirrigation units.
3. Manufactured interior plants.

manufacturer’s reference numbers, descriptions of materials and procedures

functioning of unit as recommended by manufacturer and as follows:

2.3 PLASTIC PLANTER LINERS

A. Planter Liners: Seamless plastic planter liners.

2.4 MANUFACTURED INTERIOR PLANTS (PLN##)

A. Plant Type: As indicated in Finishes Schedule.

B. Treat trunk, branch, and foliage surfaces with flame retardant to comply with
NFPA 701.

2.5 MINERAL MULCH

A. Mineral Mulch: Hard, durable stone, washed free of loam, sand, clay, and other foreign
substances, of the following type, size range, and color:

1. Type: Rounded riverbed gravel or smooth-faced stone.

2. Size Range: 38 mm maximum, 19 mm minimum.
3. Color: Uniform tan-beige color range acceptable to Architect.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

A. Examine areas, with Installer present, for compliance with requirements for
environmental conditions, and other conditions affecting performance of the Work.

B. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

3.2 PREPARATION

A. Before installation, lay out interior planters in locations indicated. Adjust locations
when requested by Architect and obtain Architect's acceptance of layout before
installation.

3.3 FREESTANDING PLANTER PLACEMENT

A. Install freestanding planters level and plumb. Use concealed shims where required for
alignment.

B. Remove stickers and other temporary labels from interior planters.

3.4 INSTALLATION OF SELF-CONTAINED SUBIRRIGATION UNITS

A. Install self-contained subirrigation units into planters according to manufacturer's

written instructions, level and plumb.

B. Trim fill tubes to no less than 25 mm higher than level of planting soil after plants have
been planted.

3.5 INSTALLATION OF PLANTER LINERS

A. Set liners in planters as indicated on Drawings.

B. Install liners to allow for liner removal.

3.6 MANUFACTURED PLANT PLACEMENT

A. Set manufactured plants at locations indicated on Drawings according to manufacturer's

written instructions.

B. Place mineral mulch in locations indicated on Drawings.
