SECTION 10 28 19.16 - FRAMED SHOWER DOORS

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

A. Section includes glazed shower doors and side panels.

B. Scope Includes:

1. Compliance with the General Conditions of Contract.


2. Compliance with all current and applicable statutory codes and requirements.
3. Completion of the design, fabrication, supply and installation of all items
specified herein, shown on the Contract Drawings, and as required to provide a
complete installation.
4. Completion of the design and coordination of all interfaces with adjoining
systems and trades prior to the commencement of fabrication.

C. The Owner requires the Contractor to implement practices and procedures to meet the
project's environmental performance goals, which include compliance with the
requirements determined by the Sustainability Consultant’s design documentation
(LEED & WELL), and applicable local authority Green Building Regulation. Specific
project goals that may impact this area of work include, but are not limited to: reduced
impact of construction activities, construction waste recycling, reduction of water and
energy usage, adequate protection for storing materials, use of recycled-content
materials, use of locally manufactured materials, use of low-emitting materials, use of
materials having EPD's, and avoid use of restricted materials. The Contractor shall
ensure that the requirements related to these goals, as defined in individual
specification sections are implemented to the fullest extent. Substitutions, or other
changes to the work proposed by the Contractor or their Subcontractors, shall not be
allowed if such changes compromise the aforementioned environmental goals and
Green Building Regulation compliance.

1. Contractor shall, at all times undertake to ensure that all targeted goals are
achieved. As and when any risks arise that could compromise the achievement of
one or more of the targeted goals, the Contractor shall bring these to the attention
of the Employer's Representative immediately.

D. Related Requirements:

1. Section 07 92 00 "Joint Sealants."

1.2 ACTION SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's specifications and installation instructions.

B. Sustainable Design Submittals: Refer to Division 01 Section "Sustainable Design


Requirements."

C. Shop Drawings: Submit complete shop drawings for fabrication and erection,
including plans, elevations, and large scale details of typical sections and connections.

D. Samples: Submit 6-inch long sections of extrusions with specified finish.

1.3 INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS

A. Embodied Carbon Submittals:

1. Completed Environmental Product Declaration Reporting Form for each


principal product type in this Section.
2. For products with completed Environmental Product Declaration Reporting
Forms claiming availability of an applicable EPD, provide the Product-Specific
or Industry-Wide Type III Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) in
compliance with ISO 14025.

1.4 CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS

A. Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Manuals: Include component list with the
manufacturer’s reference numbers, descriptions of materials and procedures
forrepairing and cleaning of finishes, and cleaning frequency.

1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Installer's Qualifications: A company regularly engaged in installation of products


specified in this Section, with a minimum of 5 years of experience.

1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. General: Comply with manufacturer's instructions to prevent damage to products.

B. Pack and otherwise protect products to avoid damage during shipping and handling.

C. Store products in manufacturer's original shipping containers.

1.7 FIELD CONDITIONS

A. Field Measurements: Verify actual dimensions of other construction by accurate field


measurements before fabrication of shower doors; and indicate measurements on final
shop drawings. Coordinate fabrication schedule with construction progress to avoid
delaying the Work.

1. Locate concealed framing, blocking, and reinforcements that support shower


doors by field measurements before being enclosed and indicate measurements
on shop drawings.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 MANUFACTURED UNITS

A. Shower Doors and Panels: Preglazed swinging doors and side panels.

1. See Drawings for profiles, dimensions, and arrangement of members.

a. Products which have minor differences will be accepted when, in the


judgment of the Architect, such differences do not detract from design
concept or performance.

2. Metal components: Extruded architectural bronze.

a. Finish: Bright chromium plated.

3. Glazing: Clear tempered glass.

a. Glazing Method: Resilient gasket glazed.

4. Hardware:

a. Manufacturer's standard units for the following:

1) Hinges..
2) Door pulls.
3) Catches: Full length magnetic type.

b. Finish: Bright chromium plated brass (BHMA 625) or Type 304 polished
stainless steel (BHMA 629).

2.2 MATERIALS

A. Architectural Bronze: ASTM B 455 for extrusions; alloy 385 (Copper Development
Association).

B. Glass Materials: Clear tempered glass complying with ASTM C 1048, Kind FT (fully
tempered), Type I (transparent glass, flat), Class 1 (clear), and Quality q3 (glazing
select).

1. Thickness: 1/4-inch.
2. Tong marks are not permitted on any piece.

C. Glazing Gaskets: Flexible vinyl or other resilient type recommended by manufacturer


to provide a watertight glazing seal.

D. Fasteners: Of same basic metal and alloy as metal to be fastened. Do not use metals
which are corrosive or otherwise incompatible with metals to be joined.

1. Provide concealed fasteners unless otherwise indicated.


2. Provide countersunk Phillips flat-head screws where exposed fasteners are
unavoidable; finish to match exposed metal components.

2.3 FABRICATION

A. General: Complete fabrication and assembly before shipping to Project site; arrange
units in sizes suitable for shipping which fit together without further cutting.

B. Preglaze assembly completely.

C. Pre-cut and perform all finishing in factory or shop.

D. Prepare exposed surfaces for finishing after fabrication; eliminate surface blemishes
and imperfections.

E. Frame Joints: Either concealed mechanically fastened or welded.

1. Welding: Perform welding before finishing; use methods which do not discolor
metal. Comply with American Welding Society (AWS) for recommended
practices in shop welding.
2. Mill and fit joints tightly with adjacent members in correct relationship.
3. Corners: Mitered.

F. Doors:

1. Perform fabrication required for hardware before finishing.


2. Factory-install all hardware except surface-mounted items.

G. Avoid damage to finishes.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

A. Inspect substrates and conditions under which the work of this section will be
performed, and verify that installation may properly commence.

B. Do not proceed with the work until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

3.2 PREPARATION

A. Comply with manufacturer's recommendations for proper preparation procedures.

B. Clean substrates and remove substances detrimental to the work.

3.3 INSTALLATION

A. Comply with manufacturer's instructions, except where more stringent requirements are
shown or specified, and except where project conditions require extra precautions or
provisions to ensure satisfactory performance of the work.

B. Install products plumb and level, square and true, and in correct location; anchor
securely in place.

C. Install surface-mounted hardware.

D. Joint Sealers:

1. Install joint sealers between sill members and construction below to provide
watertight construction.
2. Seal joints between shower door assembly perimeter and adjacent construction.
3. Comply with Section 07 92 00 "Joint Sealants" requirements for installation of
joint sealers.

3.4 ADJUSTING

A. Adjust operating hardware for proper operation.

3.5 CLEANING AND PROTECTION

A. Upon completion, clean all surfaces using proper methods that will not scratch or
otherwise damage finished surfaces.

1. For cleaning, use only products and techniques acceptable to manufacturer of


products being cleaned.

B. Institute protective procedures and install protective materials as required to ensure that
work of this Section will be without damage or deterioration at Substantial Completion.
