SECTION 10 28 00 - TOILET ACCESSORIES

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

A. Section Includes:

1. Public-use washroom accessories.


2. Public-use shower room accessories.
3. Private-use bathroom accessories.

B. Scope Includes:

1. Compliance with the General Conditions of Contract.


2. Compliance with all current and applicable statutory codes and requirements.
3. Completion of the design, fabrication, supply and installation of all items
specified herein, shown on the Contract Drawings, and as required to provide a
complete installation.
4. Completion of the design and coordination of all interfaces with adjoining
systems and trades prior to the commencement of fabrication.

C. The Owner requires the Contractor to implement practices and procedures to meet the
project's environmental performance goals, which include compliance with the
requirements determined by the Sustainability Consultant’s design documentation
(LEED & WELL), and applicable local authority Green Building Regulation. Specific
project goals that may impact this area of work include, but are not limited to: reduced
impact of construction activities, construction waste recycling, reduction of water and
energy usage, adequate protection for storing materials, use of recycled-content
materials, use of locally manufactured materials, use of low-emitting materials, use of
materials having EPD's, and avoid use of restricted materials. The Contractor shall
ensure that the requirements related to these goals, as defined in individual
specification sections are implemented to the fullest extent. Substitutions, or other
changes to the work proposed by the Contractor or their Subcontractors, shall not be
allowed if such changes compromise the aforementioned environmental goals and
Green Building Regulation compliance.

1. Contractor shall, at all times undertake to ensure that all targeted goals are
achieved. As and when any risks arise that could compromise the achievement of
one or more of the targeted goals, the Contractor shall bring these to the attention
of the Employer's Representative immediately.

D. Related Requirements:

1. Section 08 83 00 "Mirrors" for frameless mirrors.


2. Section 09 30 00 "Tiling" for ceramic toilet and bath accessories.

1.2 COORDINATION

A. Coordinate accessory locations with other work to prevent interference with clearances
required for access by people with disabilities, and for proper installation, adjustment,
operation, cleaning, and servicing of accessories.

B. Deliver inserts and anchoring devices set into concrete or masonry as required to
prevent delaying the Work.

1.3 ACTION SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data: For each type of product.

1. Include construction details, material descriptions, dimensions of individual


components and profiles, and finishes.
2. Include anchoring and mounting requirements, including requirements for
cutouts in other work and substrate preparation.
3. Include electrical characteristics.

B. Samples: For each exposed product and for each finish specified, full size.

1. Approved full-size Samples will be returned and may be used in the Work.

C. Product Schedule: Indicating types, quantities, sizes, and installation locations by room
of each accessory required.

1. Identify locations using room designations indicated.


2. Identify accessories using designations indicated.

D. Delegated Design Submittal: For grab bars.

1. Include structural design calculations indicating compliance with specified


structural-performance requirements.

1.4 INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS

A. Sample Warranty: For manufacturer's special warranties.

1.5 CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS

A. Maintenance Data: For accessories to include in maintenance manuals.

B. Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Manuals: Include component list with the
manufacturer’s reference numbers, descriptions of materials and procedures
forrepairing and cleaning of finishes, and cleaning frequency.

1.6 WARRANTY

A. Manufacturer's Special Warranty for Mirrors: Manufacturer agrees to repair or replace


mirrors that fail in materials or workmanship within specified warranty period.

1. Failures include, but are not limited to, visible silver spoilage defects.
2. Warranty Period: 15 years from date of Substantial Completion.

B. Manufacturer's Special Warranty for Toilet-Compartment Occupancy-Indicator


Systems: Manufacturer agrees to repair or replace toilet-compartment
occupancy-indicator systems that fail in materials or workmanship within specified
warranty period.

1. Warranty Period: Five years from date of Substantial Completion.

C. Manufacturer's Special Warranty for Hand Dryers: Manufacturer agrees to repair or


replace hand dryers that fail in materials or workmanship within specified warranty
period.

1. Warranty Period: 10 years from date of Substantial Completion.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

A. Electrical Components, Devices, and Accessories: Listed and labeled as defined in


NFPA 70, by a qualified testing agency, and marked for intended location and
application.

B. Structural Performance: Design accessories and fasteners to comply with the following
requirements:

1. Grab Bars: Installed units are able to resist 1112 N concentrated load applied in
any direction and at any point.

2.2 PUBLIC-USE WASHROOM ACCESSORIES

A. Source Limitations: Obtain each type of public-use washroom accessory from single
source from single manufacturer.

B. Toilet Tissue (Roll) Dispenser : As per Sanitaryware & Accessories Schedule.

C. Combination Toilet Tissue Dispenser : As per Sanitaryware & Accessories Schedule.

D. Paper Towel (Roll) Dispenser : As per Sanitaryware & Accessories Schedule.

B. Private-Use Toilet Tissue Dispenser : As per Sanitaryware & Accessories Schedule.

C. Private-Use Soap Dispenser : As per Sanitaryware & Accessories Schedule.

D. Private-Use Robe Hook : As per Sanitaryware & Accessories Schedule.

E. Private-Use Towel Bar : As per Sanitaryware & Accessories Schedule.

2.5 HAND DRYERS

A. Source Limitations: Obtain each type of hand dryer from single source from single
manufacturer.

2.6 MATERIALS

A. Stainless Steel: ASTM A240/A240M or ASTM A666, Type 304, 0.8-mm- minimum
nominal thickness unless otherwise indicated.

B. Brass: ASTM B19, flat products; ASTM B16/B16M, rods, shapes, forgings, and flat
products with finished edges; or ASTM B30, castings.

C. Steel Sheet: ASTM A1008/A1008M, Designation CS (cold rolled, commercial steel),


0.9-mm- minimum nominal thickness.

D. Galvanized-Steel Sheet: ASTM A653/A653M, with Z180 hot-dip zinc coating.

E. Galvanized-Steel Mounting Devices: ASTM A153/A153M, hot-dip galvanized after


fabrication.

F. Fasteners: Screws, bolts, and other devices of same material as accessory unit, unless
otherwise recommended by manufacturer or specified in this Section, and tamper and
theft resistant where exposed, and of stainless or galvanized steel where concealed.

G. Chrome Plating: ASTM B456, Service Condition Number SC 2 (moderate service).

H. Mirrors: ASTM C1503, Mirror Glazing Quality, clear-glass mirrors, nominal 6.0 mm
thick.

2.7 FABRICATION

A. General: Only a maximum 1-1/2 inch diameter, unobtrusive stamped manufacturer


logo, as approved by the Architect, is permitted on exposed face of toilet accessory
units. On either interior surface not exposed to view or back surface, provide
additional identification by either a printed, waterproof label or a stamped nameplate,
indicating manufacturer's name and product model number.

B. Surface-Mounted Toilet Accessories, General: Fabricate units with tight seams and
joints, and exposed edges rolled. Hang doors and access panels with full-length,
stainless steel continuous hinges. Equip units for concealed anchorage and with
corrosion-resistant backing plates.

C. Recessed Toilet Accessories, General: Fabricate units of all-welded construction,


without mitered corners. Hang doors or access panels with full-length, stainless steel
continuous hinges. Provide anchorage that is fully concealed when unit is closed.

D. Keys: Provide universal keys for internal access to accessories for servicing and
resupplying. Provide minimum of six keys to Owner's representative.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 INSTALLATION

A. Install accessories in accordance with manufacturers' written instructions, using


fasteners appropriate to substrate indicated and recommended by unit manufacturer.
Install units level, plumb, and firmly anchored in locations and at heights indicated.

1. Remove temporary labels and protective coatings.

B. Grab Bars: Install to comply with specified structural-performance requirements.

C. Shower Seats: Install to comply with specified structural-performance requirements.

3.2 ADJUSTING AND CLEANING

A. Adjust accessories for unencumbered, smooth operation. Replace damaged or defective


items.

B. Clean and polish exposed surfaces in accordance with manufacturer's written


instructions.
