Alignment Procedure

Fuji Electric Turbine-Generator

1. Determine Alignment Method.

Example: Using Dial indicator (radial) & Parallel Block (axial)

R
TRB GEN

2. Perform Reading Alignment

Example :
Dial Indicator Parallel Block
0 0

- 0.04 R + 0.02 0.02 A 0.04

- 0.02 0.06

Note : For axial result is the average of the sum of 4 axial position

0° 90° 180° 270°

A A A A

Preparation for alignment.
a Ensure that the position coupling Turbine - Generator same in "0" position
b Install dial indicator for radial position on generator coupling (mounted by turbine
coupling) as per drawing above (No.1)
c Calibration the jacking oil up (keep the high of jacking oil up as same use dial on
bearing #1,2,3,4)
d Turn on jacking oil to easy turning the rotor.
e Install temporary bolt and nut (for keeping the position Turbine - Generator)
f Install jacking bolt and touch the axial face of coupling (to keep the distance of axial
face)
g Turn the rotor twice to ensure rotor on good position seating on bearing.
h Stop turning on position "0"
i Start for alignment reading.

Alignment process
a When reading process please loosen the jacking bolts (do not touch the axial face of
coupling and loosen the nut of temporary bolts)
b Record the value of axial first (4 position for position "0°" as per drawing above) and
continue read radial position (because for radial, we need wait the oil was down from
lower bearing, so better if we take record for lasting)
c After step one finish, tighten the nut of temporary bolt (only touch by hand) and tighten
jacking bolt on coupling (only touch to axial coupling by hand) to keep distance axial
face.
d Turn on jacking oil and turning the rotor on position "90°"
e Repeat step a ~ c and turn on the rotor for position 180° - 270°
f The last, come back the rotor to position "0". Ensure the dial indicator (for radial) is
comeback to "0" position
g For axial record we get 4 reading position, please take average the value and you will
get real axial record.
h Because using parallel block the value still original distance. We have to change the
value become simple reading.
Example:

AVERAGE VALUE CONVERT TO

FOR 4 POSITION SIMPLE READING

12.05 0

12.07 A 12.09 0.02 A 0.04

12.11 0.06

3. Calculation for Correction
For starting calculation we need to know :
a Actual position of Turbine - Generator
(we must be read the value of alignment and convert to drawing
b Diameter of coupling (coupling for reading, not coupling for mounting)
c Distance of center bearing journal

Example : D
Diameter coupling Ø100 mm, distance X= 300 mm and Y = 900 mm
So, the actual position of Turbine - Generator (+) because center position Gen
more high than Trb, so need
VERTICAL more Down. The calculation
0.06 A have to plus the offset

UP Calculation :
0.01

E
300 × 0.06
𝑋= + 0.01 = 0.19 𝑚𝑚
100
TRB X Y GEN
B 900 × 0.06
𝑌= + 0.01 = 0.55 𝑚𝑚
300 100
DOWN
900 C So, the shim must be removed (DOWN)
(-) because center position Gen
too much Right than Trb, so
need reduce moving to Right.
HORIZONTAL
The calculation must be minus
0.02 A the offset
Calculation :
LEFT
300 × 0.02
TRB GEN 𝑋= − 0.03 = 0.03 𝑚𝑚
100
X Y
900 × 0.02
B 𝑌= − 0.03 = 0.15 𝑚𝑚
0.03

E 300 100
C RIGHT
900 So, pedestal must be moved to RIGHT

Note :
 For value offset (E) is need divide 2 because radial
 For value gap (A) is no need divide 2 because axial

Instruction for adjusting

1. Always monitoring dial indicator 1,2,3 on coupling side (do not touch when adjusting
process). Before adjusting process, please dial indicator no.2,3 set "0"
2. Always adjusting for removing or adding shim first, after it adjusting moving pedestal
(left & right)
3. For adjusting for removing or adding shim, perform side by side.
Example :
If we want to remove shim 0.19 mm & move pedestal to Right 0.03 mm
 First step
 Install dial indicator 4 & 5 and set "0"
 Loosen pedestal bolts c & d
 Jacking up the pedestal using jack bolt as enough as possible for remove
shim. (if possible remove shim on center pedestal also, if can't not remove,
please jacking up more until center shim can be removed)
 Remove shim 0.20 mm on Right side and center side of pedestal.
 Tighten bolts c & d (use hammer but was not maximal, approx. 70%~80%)
 Please monitoring dial indicator 4 & 5 when tighten the bolts. Keep the dial 4
& 5 same as before remove shim.
 Second step
 Loosen pedestal bolts a & b
 Jacking up the pedestal using jack bolt as enough as possible for remove
shim.
 Remove shim 0.20 mm on Left side.
 After remove the side shim and center shim 0.20 mm, tighten bolts c & d
(use hammer but was not maximal, approx. 70%~80%)
 Please monitoring dial indicator 4 & 5 when tighten the bolts. Keep the dial 4
& 5 same as before remove shim.

 Third step,
 Punch pedestal bearing #3 to move to Right 0.03 mm use wood or soft metal
use hammer 5 or 10 ton.
 Keep move the pedestal little by little and one by one (after move position "a"
continue to position "b", come back again to "a" next to "b" until achieve 0.03
mm same between a & b)
 Fourth step,
 Tighten the pedestal bolts as cross (sequence a - d - c - b)
 During tightening the pedestal bolts, please monitoring the dial 4 & 5 (usually
when we tighten the bolts the position of pedestal was changed)
 The technique for tightening is try to tighten bolts "a" first, if the value of dial
changes, stop tightening and change another bolts for keeping the balance.

4. After finish adjusting pedestal #3 please continue to adjusting bearing pedestal #4

5. Repeat step for adjusting (No.3) for correcting the pedestal bearing #4

Good Luck...!!!
