Underlining Helping Verbs

• A helping verb is used with an action verb.


• The main verb usually comes after the helping verb, and states the
action.
Examples of some helping verbs:
will would can could may might

are is am have has had was

Read each sentence. Underline the helping verb(s) once and the main verb
twice.
1. He might have fallen!

2. Ella is playing the piano.

3. His uncle can drive us to school tomorrow morning.

4. The librarian might read us a story about insects.

5. They could hear the ambulance down the street.
