INTRODUCTION: Mathematicss is a subject that aims at creating

awareness in learner's life and the Relationship with the outside world with environment. It is an

important subject in the society as it enhances understanding of our environment and different weather

aspects. The topic "weather” is very crucial in the teaching and learning activity. It explains the clothings

used during different weather days. The topic seeks to clarify the weather and what is worn during

different weather changes, this project is Therefore very ideal because it will help the students relate

well to what they are being taught . To achieve this a flipchart made so that it will be used as a Teaching

aid in order to enable a learner to apply the knowledge

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

1
Environmental activities related to weather changes. Appropriate clothing choices for different

weather conditions and different weather symbols used can be an engaging way to teach grade 2

learners about environment and how to adapt to changing weather patterns. This is because

learners can track the day weather conditions such as sunny, rainy or snowy. After thorough

research on students performance and knowledge of grade 2 pupils in Ndagani primary school, I

found that many learners are finding it difficult to understand the fundamental concepts on

tracking and understanding different weather conditions and symbols used as well as the clothes

they ought to wear in each weather condition. Therefore the project will enable grade 2 learners

in Ndagani Primary School to develop great awareness of how weather impacts their daily lives

and importance of dressing appropriately for different weather conditions. This will help them

learn practical skills while forming a sense of responsibility towards environment. In most cases

the poor performance of students in this area was brought by the lack of knowledge on weather

changes and symbols hence unable to Meet required expectations. After careful observation, it

was revealed that the flip chart containing different weather symbols and clothes worn on

different weather should be used to enhance learner's understanding. This project will thereby

assist learner's in Ndagani Primary School to enhance health by dressing appropriately for the

weather to prevent illness such as cold, enhance independence by teaching them on how to

choose clothes based on weather and learn about weather changes and how and how they impact

choices can help create awareness about environment especially at basic level. . It is also

observed that most learners were unable to meet expectations of the weather seasons. The

progress record in the strand weather were as follows:

weather conditions

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT

The project will aim at helping the learner to:

3
1 To Enhance understanding In the different types of weather such as rainy, windy and cloudy

2.To Reinforce learning on weather conditions of the day and night

3.To Differenciate different types of clothes worn during different weather condition

4.To Teach children how to prepare and respond to different weather condition to ensure their

safety especially in terms of health

4
PROJECT JUSTIFICATION

The various reasons as to why I as the student teacher decided to come up with this project is

because:It will assist grade two learners at Ndagani Model Primary school learn about

diff.weather conditions such as sunny, rainy and windy.Learners will also be able to distinguish

between the clothes worn during different weather conditions.

Therefore,I believe that this TLM offers dynamic and interactive ways to introduce young

learners at the ECDE level to the fascinating world of meteorology while promoting

engagement, hands on learning, visual reinforcement, vocabulary dvpt and self awareness.

The various factors that will be considered when designing the project set to be designed include;

1.Cost effectiveness..this TLM will be cost effective in that it will be made using locally

available materials

2.Versatility...it will be versatile in that it can teach a variety of concepts and can also be used in

a variety of learning areas ie.Hygiene and Nutrition, Language activities and creative arts

3.Appropriateness...it is appropriate since it suits the child's maturational and chronological age

4.Aesthetic value....it will be so attractive since I'll use bright colors, engaging illustrations and

clear images to make the flip chart visually appealing and captivating to young learners.

5
PROJECT DESIGN AND DESCRIPTION

Description

As a student teacher I will come up with a flipchart on weather used to teach environmental

activities. This TML will be constructed by learners with help of the teacher by using manillar

papers of different colours to make it more appealing then on each page they will draw and color

the weather symbols based on the theme afterwards I will connect the pages, add a cover page,

then they will cover the manillar papers with polythen bags to make it durable and then construct

a stand made of wood to support the flip chart as illustrated in diagram below.

PROJECT PROCEDURE

REQUIREMENTS

Manillar papers of different colors

Markers

Cyons

Pieces of cotton wool

Pieces of yellow cloth

Glue

Pieces of wire to connect the pages

Rise to represent rain drops

Polythen transparent bag to cover manilar papers for durability

Two pieces of wood to support the flip chart

PROCEDURE

I) Prepare the manila papers :they will start by cutting the large manila papers into

equal sized rectangles-this will be individual pages of the flip chart

II) On each manila paper I will represent theme,

a) draw and color the things observed during the day (sun) and those observed at

night (moon ,stars)

b) draw, color and make a collage of weather conditions such as sunny, cloudy rainy

c) draw and color the cloths worn during the cold season

7
d) draw and color the clothes worn during the rainy season

e) draw and color the clothes worn during the sunny season

iii) Label and add information – write the name of each type of weather on the top of the page

iv) cover the manila paper using a transparent polythen bag for durability

v) connect pages using a piece of wire

vi) Add a cover page

-create a cover page for the flipchart with the title decorated in diff colors

vii) support the flipchart with two pieces of wood

8
PROJECT UTILIZATION

The resource project will be used by grade 2 learners in Ndagani Primary School in that it will

provide visual representation of different weather conditions and symbols used in each as well as

clothes worn during different weather conditions. It will help the learners understand and

recognize weather patterns more effectively than verbal assumptions alone. As a teaching

resource, the the project of a flip chart will help learners differentiate between weather symbols

such as sun, clouds and rain and the clothes that ought to be worn during this weather conditions.

This will enable them associate specific symbols with different weather conditions, enhancing

their understanding. Learners will therefore be able to match the symbols, point to, discuss

promoting engagement and retention of information. Through this knowledge the learners will be

able to choose appropriate clothing or understand the impact of weather on daily routine. This

teaching material will make learners keep focused and interested in the topic weather changes

and clothing choices since they will be able to refer to the flip chart to solidify their

understanding and take responsibility for their clothing choices and adapt to changing weather

patterns.

The project resource will also;

i) promote learners Independence

ii) Enhance practical application since learners can choose appropriate clothing and plan outdoor

activities.
