Preface

Internships are known for giving students the opportunity to apply their
knowledge in real world environments. At the same time, they will also develop
skills which will help them to perform better at their jobs. Practice teaching
(internship for trainee teachers) is an integral part of the teacher education
program which is geared towards preparing the new entrants into the teaching of
other job oriented programs. We are one such lucky student to have the chance
of internship during our master’s degree in English literature. In this report the
initial chapter in dedicated to the detailed information of the course that was
covered during my internship as a Spoken English teacher. The details of
monthly, weekly and daily report of the work done and proposed work were
given. Furthermore the career opportunities, eligibility criteria and the
challenges (faced during this internship), in the field that was chosen. In the last,
a personal assessment on the experience that was had from the beginning to the
end of training program was given.
The teachings of literature are in some sort very relevant in teaching spoken
English. As we read literature aloud contributes to developing speaking as well
as listening abilities. Moreover, it also leads to improve pronunciation. Reading
literature includes an intense range of vocabulary. Dialogues and prose that
prepares us to communicate the language by using new words which we learn
from the literary text. It also helps us to develop interpretative abilities.
Introduction

The internship is an integral platform for anyone to gain experience in an actual

workplace. Internship greatly increases the chances that a student will gain full
time employment after graduation. By using internships students are provided
with experience that will make them stronger. In addition to this, their work
ethic will increases, and will be confident in their abilities.
We are one such lucky students to have the change of internship during our
Master’s degree in English Literature. Where we got the opportunity to work do
our internship in various fields like in schools, colleges, institutes or either in
any company. The field that was chosen by me is Skill Development and
Education for BPL students, Gyan Ganga Development Committee(Madan
Mahal, Jabalpur). As, teaching English Grammar has a great scope as
nowadays everyone wants to speak and learn English, as speaking English
allows one to actually broaden one’s world , from job ability to relate to people
from every country. Internship at Gyan Ganga Development Committee(Madan
Mahal, Jabalpur, as an English Grammar teacher is a very good opportunity for
one to learn and gain experience. As man learn through experience, this
internship also gives me the opportunity to do mistakes and learn from them.
There are various teaching methods to teach the language effectively to students
like formerly we use grammar cum translation approach, task based learning.
Communication language approach, direct method, audio-lingual method,
content based learning, structural approach, total physical response, lexical
approach and many more. Here it can’t be said that only one of these methods is
sufficient for effective teaching. So, mostly teachers opt for an eclectic
approach; which mixes techniques from different approaches. This approach
was used during this internship too.
Methodology

The methodology section outlines the strategies and approaches used in

teaching English grammar to BPL (Below Poverty Line) students. It includes
the teaching methods, materials, and assessment techniques to ensure effective

the overall grasp of the grammar concepts taught.

of improvement and to provide personalized guidance.

• The new knowledge acquired can be lost if not consolidated in

subsequent or small exercise based on units helps students to retain the
knowledge.
• Students fell embarrassed and shy while speaking English. For this one
should start practicing it alone, in a comfortable space where they can
speak aloud. Teacher should encourage students saying it’s not your
mother tongue, still you are learning which is incredible so you do not
need to feel shy.
• Anxiety of students to speak that feeling of anxiety can be removed by
giving enough attention towards weaknesses and strengths of each

• In the class students are from different age groups, from different classes
background so sometimes it was difficult to tackle the problems or doubts
of everyone simultaneously.

• Strong students dominate the class due to which there is a risk that some
members of the working groups contribute more than others. For this,
each students should be given enough and equal time to speak.
