NAME: Lemuel John C. Dela Cruz SUBJECT: English (Parts of a Newspaper)

CONTENT STANDARD
The learner demonstrates understanding of: contemporary Philippine literature as a means of responding to the
demands of the global village; various extended text types; lexical and contextual cues; appropriate and polite oral
language, stance, and behavior; and use of imperatives, prepositions, verbs, and wh-questions.

PERFORMANCE STANDARD
The learner transfers learning by: explaining the need to be cooperative and responsible in today’s global village;
using appropriate strategies to comprehend extended text types; using lexical and contextual clues to understand
unfamiliar words and expressions; using imperatives, prepositions, and appropriate and polite oral language, stance
and behavior in various information-sharing formats.

I. OBJECTIVES
> Gather current information from newspapers and other print and non-print media (EN7RC-II-g-2.1)
At the end of the one-hour class, the learners are expected to:
a. Know the different parts of a newspaper. (COGNITIVE)
b. Find significant uses of a newspaper in daily life. (AFFECTIVE)
c. Create a newspaper. (PSYCOMOTOR)

the trashes.

Very well then, I want your attention class because our
lesson for today will require you to.

There are no absentees for today sir.
Since the whole class is present today, give yourself
three claps.

7. Motivation

Information is everywhere and for us to get what we


need; we must be keen with our eyes.

With that said, we will play a matching game.

I will divide the class into two teams. Each team then
takes turns in choosing TWO squares. If the two
squares are the same picture, then the team gets a
point. If the two squares are different you will wait
another turn to make another guess. You must try to
remember where the matching pairs of pictures are.
Now, I want each of you to give your own ideas about
a newspaper using only one word.

Now, I am confident that everyone has an idea about a


newspaper.

But is anyone from the class knows the different parts


of a newspaper? Or any idea what are the parts of a
newspaper?
Answer may vary
Well, a few knows and its fine. Because, every day is a
new day for us to learn new things.

With that, I can assure that everyone is ready for


today’s lesson.

We will talk about the DIFFERENT PARTS OF A


NEWSPAPER.

After our discussion we are expected to:


(The teacher will call someone who will read the texts
flashed in the screen.)
At the end of the one-hour class, the learners are
expected to:
a. Identify the different parts of a newspaper.
b. Find significant uses of a newspaper in daily life.
c. Create a newspaper.
Thank you very much. I am very confident that we can
achieve these outcomes, are you with me?

2. Lesson Proper

Now before we start, the class will be divided in to


three groups and each group will be provided a
newspaper. Each group will examine a newspaper
which I will provide and identify as many parts as you
can.

Discuss and collaborate with your group mates.

Remember, there are no wrong answers.


I will give you 3minutes to list and discuss the
different parts of newspaper with your group mates.

Very well then, let’s begin.


Each group will discuss what they think are the
different parts of the newspaper based on their hand-
outs.

Now that everyone is finished listing, let’s analyze


each part you have listed accordingly.

What is the first thing you have seen or read on the


first page? Anyone from the class? Sir, it is the front page or the headline section.

1Yes, the first part is called the front page or the


headline.

- This is the first page of the newspaper and features


the most important and breaking news stories of the
day.
- Headlines are usually accompanied by images or
photographs to grab the reader's attention.

The next part is something local, any idea from the


class? Sir it is the local news section.

- Focuses on news and events that are relevant to the


local community or region.
- Covers topics such as local politics, events, crime,
and community happenings.

For the third one, this covers the news from national to
international degree. What could it be? Anyone? Sir, it is the International/National news section

News page.

- Covers significant news stories at the national and


international levels.
- Includes updates on politics, economics,
international relations, and major global events.

For this page, it explores the opinions of journalists.


Anyone from the class who has an idea? Sir, it is the Editorial page.

- Features opinion pieces, editorials, and columns


written by journalists, experts, or guest contributors.
- Provides a platform for expressing viewpoints,
analyses, and commentary on current affairs.
The fourth page discusses all about the current
economic trends. Any idea from the class what this
page is called? Sir, it is the Business and Finance news section.

- Covers news related to business, finance, the stock


market, and economic trends.
- Includes articles on corporate developments, market
analysis, and financial advice.

This next one deals with the plays and the latest news
about athletes. Anyone from the class, an idea what
may this page is called? Sir, it is the Sports news section.

- Focuses on local, national, and international sports


news.
- Provides updates on games, scores, player profiles,
and sports analysis.

The next page consists of news about the entertainment


industry. Any idea what this page is called from the
class? Sir, it is called the Entertainment news section.

- Covers news related to the entertainment industry,


including movies, music, television, celebrity gossip,
and events.
- Often includes reviews, interviews, and previews of
upcoming entertainment releases.

The next one explores lifestyle trends and varieties of


topics. What could this be, any idea from the class? Sir, it is the Lifestyle/Feature news section.

section.

- Explores human interest stories, lifestyle trends,


and features on a variety of topics.
- Includes articles on health, travel, fashion,
technology, and other aspects of daily life.

The last one is all about advertisements. Any idea from


the class? Sir, this section is called the Classified ads.

- Contains classified advertisements for job listings,


real estate, services, and personal ads.

This game is called “Myster Box”.

HOW TO PLAY:

• Your team earlier is your team

• Pick a letter and answer the question

• If your answer is correct, then you must


choose:

KEEP THE BOX or GIVE THE BOX to the


other team. But BE CAREFUL! the points in
the box can be GOOD or BAD

Remember that I have grouped you right from the start

Each group will be given an envelope each containing


the different parts or sections of a newspaper and
different articles which correspond with each part.
Your task is to assemble a mock newspaper with the
materials inside of your envelop. Of course, place each
part of the newspaper accordingly and match the
different articles with their corresponding page or
section. You are given 10 minutes to finish your task.
Your group will be graded according to the criteria
below.

Neatness 50%
Cooperation 25%
Correctness 25%
Total = 100%
