POST-CONSTRUCTION EVALUATION
10.2 Project Management (PM) involves management activities over and above
the normal architectural and engineering (A&E) services carried out during
the pre-design, design and construction phase. The over-all objective is to
have control over time, cost and quality relative to the construction of a
project.
10.3 The presence of a PM does not relieve the designers and contractors of their
respective normal duties and responsibilities in the design and construction of
the project. The PM complements the functions of the Architects, Engineers
and Contractors in meeting the broad and complex requirements of projects.
11. PROJECT MANAGER
11.1.1 The Architect and the Specialist Consultants (SCs) are mainly responsible for the planning
and design of the project.
11 .1.2 The Engineers must lead and be accountable for the engineering plans.
11 .1.3 The Contractor will be responsible for their workers, equipment, and execution of the
project
11 .1.4 The Owner is the main decision maker of the project and ensures that there are sufficient
funds in order to accomplish the project.
11 .1.5 The Project Manager (PM)’s focus is monitoring the overall cost control. They are in-charge
of planning, programming, and monitoring various activities and shall act as an adviser for material
costs and construction methods.
12.1 Normally, the Owner and the Architect sign
a contract for the Architect to provide full
architectural services. He takes on the dual
responsibilities of the Project Manager (PM) and

13.1 The Project Manager is compensated on a percentage basis, as
shall be described in the Architect’s Guidelines.
PRINCIPLES OF PROFESSIONALISM
1.
Expertise, Autonomy, Commitment and Accountability are
some of the principles recommended by the UIA in their
legislation, focusing on providing a high degree of integrity,
competence and professionalism for Architects.
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
The International Union of Architects (Union Internationale des
Architectes / UIA ,2017) recommends further Intellectual
Property Protection for Architecture to include ideas spoken to
with clients, so as to protect the profession without detriment
to their responsibility, all while retaining ownership of their
work.
CURRENT TRENDS CONCERNING
THE SPP
INTRODUCTION OF A MANAGERIAL GROUP FOR
ARCHITECTURE
The UIA encourages countries to design and create
regulatory bodies whose purpose is to promote and protect
the interests of architects, suggesting adherence to the
UNESCO-UIA requirements, UIA International standards
and International Code of Ethics and Conduct.

COMPETITION IN A GROWING INDUSTRY
In a study by Duran et al., (2015), the construction industry i s
mentioned to be rapidly growing - resulting in architects competi ng
with each other for business. On one scenario, even allied disciplines
are considered as potential competitors rather than partnering as
allies; Engineers are more preferred by clients and easily win over
more projects due to the lack of understanding of the services and
design processes of an architect.
