OCTOPUS CROCHET

PATTERN

@zazoolia 1
The pattern and images contained in this
document are property of @zazoolia. This pattern
is for personal use only, please do not sell this
pattern in part or whole. You may sell the finish
product, but please credit @zazoolia as the
designer.
This pattern is worked in continuous round, do not
join or turn unless stated other-wise. Mark the
first stitch of the round with your stitch marker or
using a piece of thread in order to check that
you’ve made the right amount of stitches in the
round. The total number of stitches in a circular
row is indicated in brackets.
Using the specified materials, the octopus will be
about 10 centimeters (4 inches) height.
You can use any yarn for this pattern. For example
if you use “Yarnart Jeans” the octopus will be 5 cm
(2 inches), perfect for keychain.
Materials:
• Crochet hook 4.50 mm.
• Yarn: in this pattern I use chenille yarn “Yarnart Dolce”
(100g/120m).
‣ Bright purple color 795
‣ Pink color 750
• Fiberfill for staffing
• Scissors
• Pins
• Sewing needle (yarn needle)
• Stitch marker (I use a piece of thread).

@zazoolia 2
Abbreviations:

• MR - magic ring (also you can begin with “chain2” and

then make desired number of single crochets into the
second chain from hook)
• ch - chain
• sl st - slip stitch
• sc - single crochet
• inc - increase (2 sc in the next stitch)
• dec - decrease (in this pattern I make invisible decreases,
using a combination of 2 stitches: scflo2together (single
crochet in the front loop only two together).

• (...)*n - repeat n times what is indicated in brackets

• R - round (row).

@zazoolia 3
Happy crocheting!

@zazoolia 4
BOTTOM:
With rose (or any other) color.
R1. 6 sc into the MR (6)
R2. (inc)*6 times (12)
R3. (1 sc, inc)*6 times (18)
R4. (2 sc, inc)*6 times (24)
Continue to crochet the TENTACLES.
R5. (30 ch, 3 sc in second chain from hook, 28 sc on the
chain, 3 sc)*8 times, + 1 ch to fix the yarn.

@zazoolia 5
Cut the yarn. Now grab your tail of the MR and pull it
through the center of the MR to other side.

BODY:
With bright purple (or any other) color.
R1. 6 sc into the MR (6)
R2. (inc)*6 times (12)
R3. (1 sc, inc)*6 times (18)
R4. (2 sc, inc)*6 times (24)
R5. (3 sc, inc)*6 times (30)
R6. (4 sc, inc)*6 times (36)
R7-R10. 36 sc around (4 rounds)
R11. (7 sc, dec)*4 times (32)
R12. (6 sc, dec)*4 times (28)
R13. (5 sc, dec)*4 times (24)
Stuff as you go.
R14. (4 sc, dec)*4 times (20)
R15. (3 sc, dec)*4 times (16)
R16-R17. 16 sc (16) (2 rounds)
If you use safety eyes attach them now between 15 and 16
rounds, 6 sc apart (count on round 16). The right eye attach
on the same point as stitch marker goes. If you use bigger
than 12 mm eyes crochet one round more. (On the next
page you will found how to do eyes more safety).
@zazoolia 6
Use the lighter to make safety eyes safer. When the black
part has melted a bit, blow out the flame and then press it
flat with a lighter or spoon or similar, press it really flat.
The black part then overlaps all around and secures the
discs and makes them nearly unbreakable.

Continue crocheting body:

R18. (3 sc, inc)*4 times (20)
R19. (4 sc, inc)*4 times (24)
Stuff body firmly.

@zazoolia 7
Continue to crochet the TENTACLES (the same way as
tentacles or the bottom):
R20. (30 ch, 3 sc in second chain from hook, 28 sc on the
chain, 3 sc)*8 times
Do not cut the yarn.
Put the right side of bottom to the body. In the end we
should see the wrong side of the bottom of octopus. And
crochet them together with slip stitches.

RIGHT SIDE WRONG SIDE

@zazoolia 8
Crochet through both stitches of the body and of the bottom.
First 30 sl st on the chain, then 31 sl st into sc through both
loops and 3 sl st on the body, repeat it 8 times. Totally 512
slip stitches.

@zazoolia 9
Then bring out the ends of the yarn at the same point of the
body, make a double knot and hide the ends inside the body.
Finally twist the tentacles clockwise.

@zazoolia 10
Congratulations!
Octopus is ready!

Let’s crochet more! And more, and

more…
