HARRY POTTER CRISIS

Topic: Addressing the protection of fantastic beasts in Harry Potter’s world.

Director: Elias Lopez Correa

Moderator: Daniela Carolina Alvarado Montoya

Introduction to the committee

The aim of this committee is to discuss the current laws and strategies related to the
regulation and control of magical creatures, as well as their responsible and ethical
use in the development of potions and artifacts. Nowadays, there are three divisions
that were created by the British Ministry of Magic to classify creatures. The Beast
Division includes creatures that do not have sufficient intelligence to understand and
follow the laws of the magical community. There is also the Being Division that
focuses on creatures with enough intelligence to be accountable for their actions.
And last, but not least, the Spirit division that concerns any creature that has a
spectral body, is unaffected by gravity and is not actually alive.

According to the International Code of Wizarding Secrecy, each wizarding governing

body is responsible for the concealment, care, and control of all magical beasts,
beings, and spirits dwelling within its territory's borders. Because of this, almost
every country has divisions such as the Department for the Regulation and Control
of Magical Creatures (Britain) or Body for Protection of Magical Species (USA). They
not only ensure that creatures keep hidden but also regulate their commercial and
personal use and provide them with habitats where neither wizards nor muggles
(people without magical abilities) can bother them.
