Your mother sent you to buy a bottle of oil at the store near your house. She gave
you a twenty-peso bill and five-peso coins. The store owner handed you the bottle of oil
but when you are about to give the payment you notice that there are one twenty -peso bill

I. PROCEDURES:
1. Prove the statement: The solubility of sugar in water is higher than the solubility of
salt given the same conditions.
2. Prepare the setup.
3. Pour 250 ml of water into the container for salt mixture and the other 250 ml for sugar
mixture.
4. Add 2 tablespoons of salt into the first container and 2 tablespoons of sugar into the
second container at the same time.
5. Stir the mixtures at the same time and at the same rate for 1 minute.
6. Observe the mixtures. Record your observations.
7. Based on the findings, state the conclusion of the simple investigation.

Activity 5. What’s the Problem?

Directions: Write one scientific problem based on the situation given in each item.
1. Diway always put the eggshells in the pots of her bougainvillea plants instead of
throwing them in the garbage bin. She wanted to see her bougainvillea blooming and
grow healthier but did not want to use chemical fertilizer. After a week, Diway is
very happy seeing her bougainvillea plants blooming with flowers. She also noticed
her bougainvillea plants have increased in size and their leaves look more attractive.

2. During their school intramurals, a softball match between competing teams took
place on the school grounds under the heat of the sun. Team A wears yellow jersey
shirts while Team B has black jersey shirts as their uniform. After the game, their
respective coaches noticed that Team B players felt hotter and produced more body
sweat than Team A players. They are trying to figure out if their observations relate
to their respective jersey uniforms.

3. Elisa received a fancy earring as a gift during her 12th birthday from her mother.
After three months, Elisa noticed that the earrings have changed color and turned
rusty. Elisa told her mother that the earrings turned rusty. Elisa’s mother then wanted
to get rid of the rust, so she called the seller of the earrings. Elisa’s mother was told
to use vinegar in removing the rust from the earrings. Unfortunately, they only have
calamansi on their kitchen. Elisa and her mother wondered if they could use
calamansi extract instead.
